I personally like the crazy vaulting and the other architectural experiments at Lincoln Cathedral. They make it unique and interesting. If the sermon’s boring you have plenty to entertain yourself with by contemplating how the original builders “creatively” dealt with structural and other issues. I’m giving them an A+ for creativity!

I've been to Lincoln. Didn't know there was that much cowboy work. Fun video but what really did it for me was you playing a strange Osmonds song in a BÖC shirt.

This made me feel a sudden urge to go check on the vaulted ceilings of my "home church" St Maria zur Wiese. Yeah no, it shows that they could pretty much rebuild from scratch after Ww2. Everything is perfect and smooth, almost boring but then again, it looks a bit like biomimicry which I love!

What a refreshing change to all those boring DIY history vids. I admire the skill of the medieval mason, but they still builders, just like those of today - short on money, short on time - take a shortcut.

Why did the English have to build huge bell towers at the transepts of their cathedrals? the french were definetly smarter in designing their's.

Even the lousy builders which built my house did a somewhat better job at making less design mistakes.

One great mistake was letting Andy Blacklock run the bellringing practices there

so they started building with no idea? so every time it fell down they learned a very important lesson? but blamed it on God's wrath on people's wicked fornication (especially the Bishops ) ????
