My god... the modern architecture is horrific... what a loss.... why couldn't they try to rebuild it as it was....?

What a refreshing change to all those boring DIY history vids. I admire the skill of the medieval mason, but they still builders, just like those of today - short on money, short on time - take a shortcut.

As a young Franciscan Friar I spent the previous summer of 1996 in the Sacro Convento showing people around the basilicas, I knew the Novice Master killed in this video. Due to a complete lack of health and safety these people died.

I count more than 4 people under the direct area that couldn't have made it out in time before the collapse. It's amazing that 6 of them survived, I'm sure they had lung issues after inhaling all that debris.

I lived in the area. that day they took us out of school to do an outdoor lesson, it wasn't the first time I felt an earthquake, living on the top floor of a four-storey house felt even stronger than those who lived in smaller houses. but feeling the earth, a mountain to be precise, shaking like that... we were children, although it might seem funny some of us burst into tears and the sensation when the earthquake was over was really strange. the crazy thing is that to get us back to school the teacher made us cross an 80 meter high bridge, a Roman aqueduct. after the earthquake. absurd.

Either god made it happen... or god let it happen... or god didn't care if it happened... or god couldn't stop it from happening. The only one compatible with christianity is "god made it happen", so what is everyone so shocked about? I'm surprised people even rebuilt the church- god didn't want it there.

Because the footage is slowed down, do 2x speed and you have real time speed.

If the cathedral were being rebuilt today it would be done properly. The proof is the tower of the cathedral at Bury St Edmunds, a millennium project, built entirely appropriately in stone in a late gothic style. Sir Frederick Gibberd’s modern cathedral in Coventry is a poor copy of one in Brasilia. He, along with Basil Spence was thought to be our leading postwar architect. Both were shockingly bad in my opinion

I had to do research to see if this was real. With so many people making fake content these days, you have to double check everything. And the footage almost looked like it could have been faked. Unfortunately, this is real and people did die when this happened years ago.

It's absurd not to be able to trust the news anymore but we've reached this point and I understand it. I also trust videos less and less. being a gamer sometimes you notice certain things but the further we go the more difficult it will be. in this case, since it was an important event in Italy, it is easy to document it but I imagine it is not so easy in other more remote areas.
