I have listened CHAYANAT from many artists but the way Veenaji has rendered is absolutely Miraculous and Supernatural. Salute to her Golden VOICE and CREATIVITY.

I bought a best of 2 CD collection from MusicToday simply called 'Best of Hindustani Classical music' - my foray into Hind. blessed to be able to appreciate this treasure of ICM.. chhayanat is itself a sweetest halwa - Vidushi Ji here adds the finest ghee (her training) and embellishes it with the best garnishing (taans? etc) and we simply get to enjoy. better to listen to these 10 mins multiple times than some new age singers selling us donuts...

Forget the fast taans, the magic is in the evocative simplicity of the 7-8 seconds that close the phrase from 5:50. A lone tear drops, Chaayanat soars, झरत जल नैनवा and all is longing.

'संदेसवा पिया से मोरा कहियो जाय.....' यह जब पहले बार कानों में पड़ा, इसका सम्मोहन बता नहीं सकता। शास्त्रीय गायन में रुचि जगाने में वीणा जी के गायन की बहुत बड़ी भूमिका है। क्या अद्भुत गाया है ! वाक़ई कभी कभी लगता है कि आवाज़ में यह तासीर बग़ैर साधना नहीं मिल सकती। आनंद है बस आनंद !

The first thing of Vidushi's gayaki is sweetness, ease, clarity, transparent swars and raagrup. You won't find much variations but just hear her to enjoy any raag in it's pristine, unmodified form. She never ever has taken any liberty or made compromises to cater to the "fast improving" taste of audience.

Veena ji, I have heard you at IIT-B when I was a student. Your voice occasionally filled the acoustically reverberant halls of KRESIT on some of the long evenings and we always lingered to hear just another note. Listening to this brought a wave of nostaligia. And tears. What an absolutely luminous voice!

Very saddened by the news of her death on Wed. June 29th. 2016 in Pune. Music lovers will always cherish her soulful singing like one in this audio clip. She will always live in our memories for pure joy of wonderful music she provided unconditionally to us music lovers. May her soul rest in peace for ever. We are going to miss her for sure.

I used to think only carnatic music was underrated but after listening to these gems I have come to realise how Indians have lost their aesthetic sense. Hindustani is the lingua franca of entire north, yet few people are listening to such soulful music. Hindustani is more appealing than carnatic to an untrained ear. Why this contempt for anything that is ours?

Pt Jasraj Ji has said - classical is going to college. Pop etc is school.... guess it needs more attention from listeners as well. Ma Saraswati blesses and we get to enjoy such stuff - else we get stuck in rock/pop/film (nothing against them)
