This river hike is certainly an amazing one! From the parking area it should take you about 30-40 minutes of river hiking. There is a safe area for you to park for $3. The drive from San Juan takes about one hour. Bring sturdy water shoes, snacks, water (or other beverages) and a change of clothes for afterwards.
The hike offers plenty of areas to take a dip. You can also opt to ask the owner of the last home on the road to drive you closer to Las Tinajas for a fee (about $10 last time we checked). We rather get the full experience and hike through the river! There are great rock outcrops to jump from! Just be careful of hidden obstacles. If locals are there it would be a good idea to seek their input.
Be careful if it rains; flash floods can occur any time of the year. Keep an eye on the weather and if you notice the creek suddenly turning brownish and debris coming downriver, then seek higher ground. Overall this is one of our favorite hikes in Puerto Rico!
