This film looks at how stolen art “disappears” in a complicated practise designed to obscure facts and create wealth for the art market. How the true owners of these artworks, the descendants of Holocaust victims, are still fighting a system that stops at nothing to keep secrets and protect its wealthy clientele.
There are works in private collections and established museums right now, which were stolen by the Nazis.
I think, it’s about time they were returned.

Great STOLEN Art Explained; Egon Schiele 2139pm 20.9.24 took me a while to enjoy his oeuvre. an alleged naughty boy... if you take an interest in Ai creative processes.... well, Ai seems to have an aversion to creating imagery in the style of Francis Bacon and it took a while for it to get a grip of Klimt. Schiele, it loves. dunno why that is... Blake, it doesn't acknowledge. neither does it get to grips with Sean Scully. it would be interesting to wander aimlessly with Ai creator but the skanks who can do naught but seek to control ad hoc or random processes keep putting blocks in the way of Ai doing it's thing...... it's interesting. and those with OCD issues might have a nervous breakdown should the Ai churner out of imagery get it's way... i am surmising it wont allow imagery in the style of Adolf hitler. again, i would see no problem with this. we are dealing with imagery, nothing more... curses on those who seek to deter play. anyhow.... go have a go. have your neighbour type in same prompts as yourself see how different images are... in theory the same command should proffer up completely different results...

@@GreatArtExplained No, thank YOU. So many nonsense ideas about Egon (and other artists) floating around the internet. I had prints of his works in my studio in my art school years. And other artists, but I loved his work from my first beginnings as a young teenager. I think they were great examples of how a study, some of them painted swiftly almost scetches, could be full bodied striking and very emotional works of art, without the full view, or filling the painting with color, or context. A form of raw talent that wasn't limited from schooling and academic rules. A great reminder for a young student to listen, then ignore at will. 😉 But this video is so much more important as you took the opportunity to talk about the real issue surrounding the whereabouts of his works. I'm closer to your age, and am constantly reminded these days, that the young generation today, is very unaware and uninformed about WWII in most aspects, and this subject matter here, is widely unknown to many. Is frieghtening to me. As nationalism and xenophobia is on the rise everywhere, and culture, even artistic serious arts, literatute etc, is all about packaging, likes and pandering to popular opinion to be seen at all. Which is equally dangerous to art. You have a wide audience, and it means alot to me, that you raise this subject in a way anyone can understand and learn from, use as a starting point for discussion and furher engagemenr. Thanks so much for providing the links as well. The more people look at these works, the greater the likelyhood of someone out there being able to help. And looking at the vast amount of important works listed I think has a visceral impact in understanding the severity of these crimes of theft for personal gain. 🙏❤️

We are rightly quick to condemn Hitler and yet his policies that benefit the rich today are supported by the establishment. It’s terrible. Love how instead of just saying someone died in the camps this video states clearly that they were murdered. Not only an explanation of great art but also of recent history. Great work!

The stolen art must go back to the heirs, of course, and it’s an outrage that cultural institutions have fought against it all these decades, but it is ironic that justice entails removing the art from a museum to put it on a private collector’s wall.

While I do not condone the sale of stolen goods, I do wonder how rightful ownership is determined in these cases. The original owners were often murdered, and I would assume that their wills or any sort of other documentation of who was supposed to get the artwork was destroyed. How do courts determine which relative/descendant has the best claim? What happens when different family members have different opinions on what should happen to a piece of art?

I just came from Ateneum museum in Helsinki and wanted to ask if you've seen any interest regarding finnish art? Some nice pieces of finnish mythology can be found in them.

My only question is when these artworks held in museums are returned to their proper owners, will that mean they’ll become private? Because I believe that all art should be open for public view, everyone should have the right to view important works that they otherwise wouldn’t be able to experience

Great video. What an amazing series that I hope will continue. I was however confused at 15:15 as Rembrandts Night Watch was never confiscated. It was first hidden in a castle outside of Amsterdam before it was transported to a limestone mine near Maastricht in 1942
