Thank you for keeping the cut in, many would not have. Everything can be a learning or teaching opportunity.

Thanks! I figured it would prove a point about how unsafe the old tool was. I guess it did!

Have you got Aldi in Canada l picked up a multi tool for $9.00 has everything except scissors and well made.A mini magnified glass would be a great asset for fire and a hand grenade pin just in case.

Great review Dean thanks for making this video. I'm not really a fan of Gerber Products but I might buy it just to beat it up see how long it takes to break it that might make for some interesting video!
@AlbertaBushcrafter8 жыл бұрын
It might indeed! But wear a lot of safety gear as a lot of bad things can happen when you break a folding blade.

"Blood, sweat, tears" - often the cost for giving our best to accomplish task at hand. Summer heat and a don't do that meets the criteria for two of the three. I won't ask what happened off camera, if you used an alcohol pad for clean up. ;-) Glad you had the old & new to make comparison. Don't see how they can call 2 tools a "survival kit". An ULTIMATE kit.......................... no further comment, needed. Thanks for sharing.

I used an alcohol swab as it was bleeding quite freely. And yes, I had all three: blood, sweat and tears - and I was only off-camera for about two minutes. And no - I don't know how they can call it either "ultimate" or "kit". It's neither, but I have space in the gear box in my SUV so both "kits" are in there now.

Good job, Dean! This is a very informative video, thank you for demonstrating how dangerous that first BG multi-tool was. It is scary to think of something like that in the hands of a beginner. Concerning the newer tool, is it correct that only the knife blades are locking? Be safe out there on the trail, my friend. - Dee
@AlbertaBushcrafter8 жыл бұрын
Great to hear from you again, Dee! I had you in mind when I shot this video. Actually, all the blades are locking. In fact, when I'm folding the tools back on the new tool in the video, I don't know if you caught it but the scissors stuck and I had to unlock them.

leave it at the store if it has BG on it.
@AlbertaBushcrafter8 жыл бұрын
Meh - if it's a freebie or a cheapie I'll take it, if only to test it till it breaks and do a video on it. I've seen people roll an edge on some of the BG parangs and machetes, though. Cheap stuff - you'd be better off finding a gem at a garage sale or learning to make one yourself.

Great review, what the price at Costco (Canada/Alberta)?
@AlbertaBushcrafter8 жыл бұрын
It was around $35.00. However, it was a seasonal item so it may no longer be in stock.
@jakoblauridsen43478 жыл бұрын
+Alberta Bushcrafter that still seems quite steep for what it is I think
@AlbertaBushcrafter8 жыл бұрын
Actually, it's about right. A good knife and multitool set costs double or triple that. For example, a good Mora or Hultafors blade and a decent multitool plus ferro rod and mini-flashlight could run you about $70 to $100 unless you find a great sale price. But that's money that's very well spent.

I'm still wondering how this can be labeled survival with no fire starting, whistle, compass, or anything that would actually really help in survival lol. I've always stayed away from Gerber, though I'm sure they have gotten some things right. good job buddy take care
@AlbertaBushcrafter8 жыл бұрын
In my opinion, it can't - I don't think it deserves the name "survival kit", let alone "ultimate". The previous kit had a dangerous multi-tool but it also had a ferro rod with whistle and a small, weak LED penlight. At least that would be closer to the mark. Just showing folks what to expect with store-bought "survival kits".

this isn't a survival kit this is a combo it doesn't deserve the name ultimate never mind a survial kit

I'm also wondering if 'Bear' Grylls *really* endorsed this ... I figure with his endorsement and/or input on design, there should be some way this kit helps you drink your own urine ... Yet that function just doesn't appear to be there. =D
@AlbertaBushcrafter7 жыл бұрын
BWAHAHAHAHA! Love that comment and I never thought of that. There should be a Bear Grylls Urine Collector and Filter. Not sure about the endorsement, but I figure if it carries his namee, at least his producers would have endorsed that.

Too bad they had a chance to make this a better tool and flopped.
@largol33t18 жыл бұрын
Well, it's a Bear Grylls edition. I wouldn't take the kit seriously with that name. It's like Beats headphones. They're both almost entirely about brand names and not high quality or very practical stuff! PS: Alberta, I like the T-shirt!
@AlbertaBushcrafter8 жыл бұрын
I gotta agree with that. You can get better stuff for way less.
