1st time filming at Tilehurst and 2nd time filming at Pangbourne on the Great Western Main Line featuring Great Western Railway, CrossCountry Trains and Freight.
After Reading its the turn of half hourly services to Didcot Parkway to call at all intermidate stations which the first one is Tilehurst
Although the Great Western Main Line opened from Reading to Steventon in 1840 however it wasn't until 1882 when Tilehurst station itself opened.
Nowadays majority of stopping services are provided by Class 387s with the occasional Class 165s which at the time of filming due to preparation of 12 sets of Class 387s taking over Heathrow Express as well as problems of the introduction of the Class 769s meant that Class 165 and 166 turbos were being used for some stopping services to Paddington.
The recent addition at Pangbourne except for platform extensions is the footbridge however it's not fitted with Lifts for Step Free Access with the only station between Reading and Didcot Parkway having Lifts is at Goring & Streatley.
CrossCountry Trains run non stop and follow the course of the GWML as far as Didcot East Jn where they diverge towards Oxford whilst freight movements are common along there which enable to bypass Reading times to Southampton in the direction towards Reading West and down to the SWML at Basingstoke.
Pangbourne is the one of 4 stations on the GWML between Paddington and Didcot Parkway along with Burnham, Hanwell, West Ealing and Acton Main Line to only have platforms only for the slow lines.
When opened on June 1st 1840 Pangbourne was the first intermidate station out of Reading.
Originally had 4 platforms however Platforms 1 and 2 on the fast lines were removed leaving just the slow line platforms. The consequences of this in an event of line closure for engineering works means all trains would bypass via the fast lines which means the station would only be served by buses.
However due to the narrow platform lengths means the Class 387s commonly run in 8 cars for stopping services would only have the front 7 cars opening doors at the station. The only exceptions for Class 387s is either 12 car formations sometimes Monday - Friday peak hours or 4 car formation which is nowadays used for electric services to Newbury from Reading and a few trains in the morning and evening from London Paddington.
