A four hour long video with both Russ and Mike seem great for the last GameNight of the year. What a year it has been with some new faces coming along and the return of a few. Keep up the awesome work everyone and wish you all a wonderful 2024.

Thank you for the teach. I did appreciate you highlighting the differences in the NZ game. "Not a cow!!" So funny. Well done team.

Thank you so much for having me on as a guest to teach one of my favourite games! It was lovely to meet you Mike and I hope this helps people to see how great GWT is. And I'll probably never be able to remember to say sheep and not cows 😅

I didn't know, that you played this game on the day of my birthday (28th December) and today was looking for playthrough of New Zealand, because we will play it today for 1st time. This video is very helpful. Whenever I saw playthroughs from here, I like a lot these funny moments from the team. Russ you were so adorable and funny by saying cows instead of sheeps. I'm wondering how many times we will say "αγελάδες" (cows in greek) instead of "πρόβατα" (sheeps in greek)

We could have a variant where Russ would drink a chug of warm beer for every "cow" he says!

1:16:20 - The rewards (and sometimes costs) of these larger harbours only trigger later when delivering sheep or wool and placing the circular disk. Placing the harbour 'house' is free.

Noticed that too. It's easy to want to take the reward when you place the house and not later when you place the disc.
@Jburton561
@Jburton561 2 ай бұрын
I noticed about 20 minutes into the video when he was discussing harbors, you do not pay the cost for placing a store house on a large harbor. You pay the cost when you place your disc on the harbor during a delivery. (Sheep or wool)

Great job Russ and team showing this. It seems a great game but a definite at least 4 out of 5 complexity for me (don't think my friends would play it), also takes a long time but I guess you guys are explaining it too so maybe a couple of hours playing time if you are super fast. That said lovely designed game and great if you like complexity. Thanks for showing

thanks for the upload - just seeing all the bits and pieces for this game gives me nightmares - not my sort of thing Im afraid. BUT I appreciate that other people may like this and ultimately its about what you like rather than what I like

I think Lincoln should have had far more points if he made deliveries for all of his shearing! I don't think he placed a disc for it even once despite multiple 13+ wool deliveries.

kindly can you play several deckbuilding cards of the same type in the same turn? cuz the rulebook says you cannot stack them, for example if i have the card that gives 1 bird and 1 coin, if i have 3 cards of it , can i play the 3 and get 3 increase on the pathfinder track and 3 coins? another example if i have the card that gives a certificates (the card with the dog on it), if i have 2 cards on hand, can i play them both and get 2 certificates? or i should play only 1 and forfeit the other as the rulebook states you cannot stack their effects? it is a bit confusing, thank you

Thanks for this playthrough. LOVE your playthroughs. One day I hope to visit the states and get to play you:) You usualy play lighter games, so why did you decide to try out this one? And why New Zealand and not the original.

This is one of my favourite game series and this is the newest entry in it. They very kindly let me pick the game I wanted to teach and play for the show and while it is heavier than their usual stuff, I hope people will enjoy it as much as I do!

I'm guessing it's a dig at Russ as I've heard the British drink warm beer but it's certainly not a thing in NZ.

At 2:29 i had to stop, it was too painful. Nobody gave a slight hint to lincoln, he could have shaved his whole hand of four sheep instead of just one. He could have gotten rid of a disc for delivering his whool. On his first shaving action, his whool-bonus was ignored. When he bougt his 4th sheep-shearer, nobody told him, that he could simply gotten a 5th one, as he had plenty of money. Before, the great game master gave a useless hint to the lady for placement of her second building (she could have placed it on a useful place, not just drop it on a clogged hazard trail.); Later, she did not get the hint to receive four coins on her other building (reward for two buildings in the grassland); The gamemaster is obviousely too occupied to think a little bit into the beginner's turns and help them to avoid the most obvious tactical mistakes. I do not want to invest the time again to get a time stamp for each of those. So the title of this movie is only half correct - The "Playthrough"-Part is fulfilled, the "how to play"-part is missed completely.

I prefer the original Great Western Trail V2, this game has way too many unnecessary choices and not thematically needed choices/decisions. Going to pass on this one as these days games need to become a lot simpler and more streamlines to accommodate the based crunchy game play.

I still prefer the original GWT. It didn't take the better part of an hour to teach.
@bertruslanus

That version is nice to shake things up when you have dozens of plays on the original. And I feel it is more forgiving to non experienced GWT players. It is a nightmare to explain the rules to someone who has never played the OG though.
