I grew up in Hawaii and years ago I got to see a large humpback up close while we were in a 22 ft boat in between Oahu and Molokai. It poked its massive head out of the water and turned slightly to it's side so it could look at us up close with one of its giant eyeballs. It was obviously very intelligent and curious but surprisingly not afraid. I had seen whales before but never this close. After it had examined us enough it dipped down under the water and few seconds later it breached almost its whole body out of the water and landed close to us but was careful not to hit us (definitely showing off!) and swam away. I don't know how anyone could even think about killing such a majestic and beautiful creature.

Are you talking about Ocean Ramsey? She is setting a very dangerous precedent by not respecting sharks' space. A lot of shark scientists are appalled by her lack of foresight. This kind of behaviour will embolden other less than knowledgeable tourists to want close-ups with wildlife without taking responsibility for their own actions when faced with an adverse reaction from the animal. It puts the human being and animal in danger. More importantly, it threatens the existence of that species from reactionary humans amongst us.

It's truly unfortunate that international countries do not take an active role to preserve these amazing creatures. It takes a man and several crew members to preserve humpback whales 🐋 due to Japanese excessive consumption and poaching of endangered animals. Truly sad and heartbreaking!!! Hopefully, this video shades some light on this issue and force the international communities to intervene and stop extinction of these beautiful creatures!!

The U.S. enforces the laws with in our waters. But the wussies wouldn't even keep the Japanese out of the federal waters or the State waters of Alaska, to keep them from raping the sablefish and even harvesting the glacier ice from Le Conte Glacier and others I'm sure. That went on for who knows how long but all through the 80's when I was a kid and teen and probably through until the early 90's. But I'm sure they were taking whales and everything else they could get their thieving hands on!

What a great episode! The sea mining was very interesting, whales are always fascinating and as for the sharks, I wonder how many people lost their lives driving to the beach? Maybe automobiles need to be stopped? Duh, if you don’t want to take the risk, just don’t swim there. All animals have a right to be on the planet. Not just the ones that serve a purpose to humans.

I do have to agree with the other researchers. That is an extremely invasive way of handling these animals. I was immediately thinkin about the weight of the shark without the pressure relieving weightlessness of the water. It has evolved over hundreds of millions of years in the water and is not made to be taken out of it. That scene seriously stressed me out.

They said tagging the dorsal fin is the equivalent to humans getting their ears pierced. I’m sure research has previously been done that would prove their theory that it’s not that painful for the sharks. They have thicker skin than we do, obviously.

I agree that a person’s life may be worth more than a shark or seal’s life. But the problem is, they live in the ocean, we can’t ask them to move. We, however, do not live in the ocean and yet we are killing the ocean. How is it that we have the right to do this? We also depend on the health of the ocean. We humans need to take responsibility for our actions and the risks we take. We do not have the right to live in a self centered oblivious fashion and expect every other species to just get out of the way. Hubris! Selfish!

I understand what you're saying but at the same time GOD gave us dominion over all creatures and of all the Earth and ever since sin entered the world there's been nothing but death and violence so we can't really coexist with animals like we were meant to. I guess we just have to do the best we can really.

This just made made me wonder. What if somehow human violence (dominion) had permitted earth to nurture two powerful, sentient and advanced species which share the dominance over nature we now enjoy/experience? And if that happened, what if WE were the subs? Would we have such a proprietary attitude towards nature expressed in our behavior, and founded in our religious texts, or would we be better stewards than we are today?

Very good video and we trespass on their domain and then blame them for attacking humans which rarely happens because seals are a fat rich prey that sustains them for a long time but we on the other hand are very lean and probably just juveniles are to blame for most white shark attacks on humans and most of the time they take a bite and turn loose but their teeth are so razor sharp people die of blood loss.
