Welcome to New York with that incredible artwork....was one of my first vinyl boots and have on CD. So great. Meanwhile the Stones one official 1972 CD release Ladies And Gentlemen, The Rolling Stones is possibly the worst sounding live album they've ever put out. But the many bootlegs sizzle. I do love the DVD release of the movie though.

I got turned onto The Stones at 12 in 1976. An older friend of mine got me interested and they’ve been my favorite band ever since. The man that got me into them has passed but another friend that he turned onto them and I are still friends for 45 years. The first record that I listened to was Through The Past Darkly. We will once in awhile hit the neighborhood pub, have a couple pints, takeover the jukebox and just sit and play and talk Stones for hours. Unfortunately I was unable to get a ticket for Detroit 78, which was sad because that is one of my favorite tours but did see them in Orlando in 81 and a couple of times later. Great book. It’s always so great to meet and talk to real fans. Some people say they like them but just don’t quite understand the magic.

Great story - thanks so much for sharing. We're similar in that in 1976 I was 13 and already a big Stones fan. I can remember when Black & Blue came out. Didn't get very good reviews (I still have them - I collect Stones press cuttings and have thousands of them). The album was a big disappointment to me at the time (I first saw The Stones 6/26/75 at MSG). Of course it's grown over the years and became kind of ahead of its time. One of the few Stones albums in which they've played every song live. Anyway, thanks for watching and writing your comments. GREAT.

@@bjones8470 When it was released, it was a "strange" Stones album. I was a huge fan of IORR, but that was considered a huge disappointment at the time - believe it was #1 for one week in the States. Black And Blue at the time was considered an even bigger fall. I loved Metamorphosis which came out in 1975, but that wasn't really a "Stones" album and I remember many reviews were like Black and Blue was trash when compared to Metamorphosis which was Stones demos and outtakes. Of course over the years it's a big "grower" and was ahead of it's time. I still listen to B&B fairly regularly. Thanks.

I have been wanting to comment on this video, but have been overwhelmed with life recently. I went to a funeral and sat between two friends who weren't feeling well. The following day, the person on the left of me died of a heart attack. One week later, the person on the right of me died of pneumonia and sepsis. It's been a lot. I have been calling myself a death sandwich.😂 Trying to find some humor.... As you may remember, I saw this tour in Mobile, Alabama, the summer I got out of high school. It was a fantastic show. This book is amazing. I saw it on the same Stones site as you. What a Christmas present to get!!!!! I get socks. You were gifted a GREAT present!!! While I am here, I want to wish you a Happy Mardi Gras!!! It's tomorrow. Everywhere else it's just another day, but not here tomorrow 🤣😂

Wow David...I don't know what to say, except maybe that I'm glad I'm not sitting next to you...No seriously, that's an incredible story. So in a week, you lost three close friends. Wow. I really am truly sorry. I wish I could have seen the Stones '72 Tour live. But I was 9. I did see them in 1975 at MSG though. I hope you can enjoy your Mardi Gras. I can't imagine how wild that will be. We vacationed in New Orleans once. I loved it. Was pretty wild and that was just "normal" time. Anyway, I'm sorry for your losses, hope you're ok and try to enjoy the festivities. I'm sure your loved ones would want you to.

Watching Stones content from this era jarred loose a distinct memory of the evening show in Ft Worth in '72. I believe it happened during Can't You Hear Me Knocking because I can't think of another point in the performance Jagger wasn't a hundred per cent of the focal point. He wore a long-sleeved pop-rivetted jumpsuit and danced out of a circle of light illuminating the band. The moment he crossed the edge of light into a darker area at the back of the stage he stopped dancing, the dance moves fell away like he'd suddenly shrugged off a raincoat. I don't know if the floor seats had a line of sight of that too, I'd sat on the floor for the afternoon show and it presented a wholly different visual perspective. Looking down from the balcony though Jagger was visible beyond the light. The band churned through the extended outro and my attention turned to them. When I glanced back at Jagger he sat cross-legged on the floor but when the time came for him to return to the spotlight he rose smoothly from a sitting position to his feet without using his hands to touch the floor. I got the impression when he'd sat down he'd also done so without using his hands for support. I don't if that is some yoga move or martial arts discipline. When I got home I attempted it and must report mission failure.

Cool story. Don't think they ever played Can't You Hear Me Knocking live in '72 - a lot of research on that. I believe Greenfield said they played it once on the '71 tour. But no evidence of it ever live until recent years.

@@TheAlanRosenbergShow Thanks for clarifying, I thought it must've been Knocking because Jag sat about two minutes. Looking at the setlist it only could have happened in You Can't Always Get What You Want but maybe he only sat down 30-40 seconds, a strange time continuum sometimes descends on Stones' shows.

That tourbook looks absolutely GORGEOUS! When you said it was self published I had to replay the video to see if I heard you correctly. Erwin J. Hoetjes should be beaming with pride. His 23 years of hard work and dedication culminated in a book of seemingly such high quality that I can’t imagine why any established publishing house wouldn’t snatch it up. Of course, I haven’t read it. But it appears to cover virtually everything about one of the most legendary rock tours in history by the group that is widely acknowledged to be “the world’s greatest rock ‘n’ roll band.” While the tourbook may seem a “ bit”pricey, it’s a lot less than what it costs to buy a typical coffee table book. And, not an awful lot more than many big hardcover tomes cost. Obviously, that’s only relevant to those who can afford such things. Your son, Michael, is very generous and thoughtful in getting you such a special gift for the holidays! I wish Erwin the best of luck in getting his book out to big Stones fans and serious rock-related collectors who are in a position to afford his beautiful book.

@@abercrombie1416 Yea, in the US. Ladies And Gentlemen was supposed to be like a concert tour with full Quadrophonic sound installed in the theaters to replicate the concert. They opened it at the legendary Ziegfield Theater in NYC. Unfortunately wasn't a big hit. I used to see the film at midnight movies later on but not with the full blown Quadrophonic Sound. Was thrilling when they finally released the DVD. But the CD sounds like garbage unfortunately. It's a shame that unlike The Beatles who have the greatest producers, directors etc release incredible indepth documentaries with virtually no time limit, the Stones archives really are handled like crap. 90 minute documentaries that cover like 50 years is a joke. And I don't know what they're waiting for, except its well known Jagger has no interest in the past. That's fine. Turn the stuff over to "professionals" to turn out great indepth documentaries. The Rolling Stones of 1972 are thought to have poor sound and poor performance skills to listen to now. The Stones' live albums of 1972 are not very attractive, as the Stones have become more sophisticated and sophisticated in their playing as they go along. The poor sound quality of boottreks makes it even more tiring.
@TheAlanRosenbergShow
@TheAlanRosenbergShow Жыл бұрын
Interesting that you think the Stones performance skills of 1972 were poor. I've never heard that before, but hey, we're all entitled to our opinions. I think they're performance skills of 1972 were pretty exceptional, in fact the best band in the world at the time. True Jagger was a bit glammy, but when they were hot, no one could touch them. Mick Taylor truly took their musicianship to another level. Very different, of course to the Stones live today, with all the backup singers and much greater technology. I agree that it's a terrible shame, that they haven't released a great live album from the tour, though Brussels is an incredible performance (especially the bootlegs) of the 1973 show. I also think the film Ladies And Gentlemen, The Rolling Stones, shows them in a great light (for it's time) as does the live stuff from Cocksucker Blues. Thanks for commenting.
