HyunJin played fourth dimensional chess here, making moves people didn't even consider. Think about it: Neither HeeJin nor HyunJin really needed the show. They had both already secured a spot in LOONA, they knew was a steady longterm gig. In fact, it would have been a bad move for them to win because then they'd have been tied to the new group and it would have taken away from LOONA. If they had made the final lineup and their group had been selected, promotions for that group and promotions for "Hi High" surely would have overlapped. So by bumping HeeJin from the team, she puts the spotlight on HeeJin (which gives her more exposure + a sympathetic edit) and helped ensure that neither of them would end up as part of the final lineup. It's kind of brilliant.

For confused people: So here is a clip from the reality show mixnine where yg entertainment was making a group. Here the girls choose wheter they will do song a or b. The girls with the lowest rank choose first and then the once with high ranks. But half of them where suppsoed to at each. So the one with the highest rank can kick off a member and take their place. Heejin was at sixth and Hyunjin was at third. Heejin really wanted to do the a but Hyunjin kicked her off. This was a big shock since they had probably the strongest friendship on the show. Hyunjin have gotten a lot of hate from it, but there was a lot morre reasoning behind this than people know. Hyunjin said on the show that she did it for Heejin sake, since it would benefit her to show diffrent sides/talents. Also at this time they both knew they had loona as a back up. Also mixnine was based on votes and when Hyunjin did this she made Heejin get a lot of empati form the audience. They pushed Heejin up while dragging herself down. She should have told Heejin before since Heejin felt really hurt and betrayed, but there weren’t a lot of time to do so either. You can see on Hyunjin’s face and exspression feels bad and want to explain herself. Moral of story: Hyunjin don’t hate Heejin, she actually chose Heejin over herself. I am pretty sure Heejin know why Hyunjin did by now. On one interview each member was suppose to chose the Loona member that they are closes with and Heejin chose Hyunjin and Hyunjin chose Heejin. They have a really real and geniue friendship dont get the wrong idea.

Yes perhaps there was a part of Hyunjin that didn't want it, but she would have ejected someone else instead of her labelmate with who she'd work in the future (I don't know if they were already part of LOONA at that time) and especially someone she truly loves and cares for. Tbh I didn't see Hyunjin picking Heejin as a bad thing. Hyunjin had a really great explanation for why she picked Heejin. But I would've picked Heejin as well for a different reason, if I were in Hyunjin's shoes, or anybody else from the same company as her. Heejin's a really versatile person and all-rounder. Idk how she was back then, but I would've picked her because I knew she'd be able to do well in any song genre or performance. I also would not have wanted to pick a random girl that had a low af rank who was already dangling on a low rope.. Isnt it more logical? Look at all the girls who avoided eye contact and even turned away, already prepared to cry. Heejin looked straight ahead into Hyunjin's eyes, smiling nervously. But you know deep down, picking someone you know best and that is an all-rounder, is the easiest choice to "push out." Heejin may not have understood that then because she was always probably so used to being the best and complimented, that being taken out of her environment for this show probably sent her down a path of really doubting herself whenever she received criticism. And as everyone should know, judges, mentors, trainers, etc, tend to be hardest on those with the greatest potential. But you make a show with a bunch of minors and of course there's going to be a lot of heartaches. I believe Hyunjin trusted her friend and believed in her more than anybody else. It definitely would've been much harder to try and pick a random girl to "push out" because we know how cutthroat the industry is, and any one of the other girls being chosen would've caused them to burst out crying as well, no matter who ended up in that position.
