I remember this show when I was a kid, I grew up with it. And no matter how stressful life gets, whenever I watch it again from time to time, I always have a good belly laugh. The fact that it’s still funny, and relatable, after all this time, just shows the brilliance of it.

That wonderful, poignant scene with Albert reminiscing by the river's edge - the perfect mixture of nostalgia and pathos, the interplay of these wonderfu, timeless characters... And then - "who's there?" "Knock knock!" So simple yet hilarious!! What a show 👌 Perfection!

8:20 I love stories about older Britain, and hearing this little soliloquy from Uncle Albert brings tears to my eyes. Such a simple yet wondeful time, brought to life by an amazing actor. RIP Buster Merryfield, RIP Uncle Albert.

I really feel for Uncle Albert's pain. His sad bewilderment at how much the world has changed; his recollections of how the world used to be: simpler. Let's treasure the Uncle Alberts and Grandads of this world, for they can remember a better one.

From the expression on Albert’s face, he wasn’t acting. He was reliving those times and sights for real.

Del's response of "Yeah, it's terrific innit" is one of the few times I think John Sullivan got the mood a bit wrong. Albert's speech is so heartfelt and so important to him that I don't think Del, even blinded by his love of the yuppie lifestyle, would cut him down like that.

John Sullivan's ability to reduce people to tears in every way possible is amazing, i am a south londoner and the change from the 80s-90s when i grew up to now is just awful i cant imagine how bad it is for the older folks. I cannot believe that the BBC don't even have this available on iplayer.

Another gleaming gem of a comedy from the era when we were *truly* "spoilt for choice". Wonderful writing & acting would leave the audience in tears of laughter or pathos. OF&H, Blackadder, YM/YPM, Porridge, Open All Hours..... _et al._ "We'll never see their likes again". So sad that the race to the bottom has ended up with a cesspit of "comedy" with limp storylines, woke pandering & singularly unfunny shows. Still, we can enjoy these gems still, on here & elsewhere. Thank you.
