Hello doctor yes the famous z shot truly was something. I love Efren due to his gentleman way pool etiquette. He is a true gentleman player. Earl on the other hand like they say very emotional, little cocky at times. Not to take anything away from his shooting ability. Because he was quite the player. MacCready of course you know who that is way too cocky for me. But yet he was a good shooter in the day. There are a few players I truly admire. Of course you are number one.lol But seriously. Efron RoboCop I loved Tony Ellen's break. Johnny Archer had great finesse. Okay I've said enough. Keith Kuhn now just a 70 old watcher. Until next time.

Another facet of Efren's game I feel is understated is the fact that he can adjust to just about any conditions on the table. If you can play great in those conditions, what more if you're playing on great pool table.

Most people put the 7 a little higher than it was on the original Z shot. Even when Shane was shooting it with Efren, they put the 7 close to the head spot line. On the original shot, you can see it is a few inches below the line thus making it necessary to spin it more off the first rail to make the shot. Great video Dave.

I was fortunate to get to play in a tournament at the Sands in Reno Nevada where this memorable match took place. Then fast forward years later . Took on Efren “The Magician” Reyes 🤯. I was waiting for this video from you Dr. Dave. You did an amazing job on the last upload. Keep up the great work my friend.🤩👍.

@@DrDaveBilliards I think your style is great, perhaps I prefer your substance over others' personality. :) And on second thought, the Mosconi Cup is a bit of a circus, and your style may not be dramatic enough for that event. I loved this match. When Efren made the 8-ball, which led to his famous 'z shot', my heart sank. I was familiar with Earl's antics. Never was a fan. He would ham it up, stall, and complain, just to add drama. I wanted to beat his a**, on more than one occasion. I'd just met Efren a year earlier, in 94, and I've still not met a nicer, more humble guy. Efren would make you feel good... As he was running racks on you. The only guy I could compare his table manners to would be, Mike Massey.

Their no satanic conspiracy here or any voodoo magic you are thinking, Efren is just very good in billiard and he is a master of carom billiard that is why he is very good in bank shots and kick shots, combine that with keen eyesight, high game intelligence, hunger to win and ability to handle pressure in difficult situation. That is Efren Reyes considered as billiard's greatest of all time in my opinion. A one in a billion individual.

I have watched even your videos on cue ball control but I... I just am not getting better at visualizing it at a reasonable pace. Like it has been months. Do you have any advice? Also WHATS GOOD HOMIE?

Reyes knew it would take around 23 attempts because that's how many times he shot that shot in his head before he took his shot and made it. That or he is an actual magician and can predict the future with pretty good accuracy.

Yeah, you almost can't watch this match too many times. Some awesome stuff, especially that ridiculous kick carom (sunk) kick for the nine converted, and the Z, of course. Some pretty puny safety play, considering the participants in a few places, though. And yes, Earl would have been BEYOND fuming, he would have gone incandescent had that 9 snapped for Efren. LOL Earl's a bit of a turd in that respect, but always funny as hell to watch, MHO. You never have to guess what he is thinking, though, he either shows it to you or 'prosplains it to you in painful detail. One hell of a player, though. There were world event professional title matches where nobody could touch him, or give him a decent competitive match, in his prime. Much like Efren, at times. I do have to say this was seriously CLASSY Earl, in this match. I've heard from several folks that Earl is a great guy off the table, he just lets his prey drive take over a bit too much in serious competition. "I can't think of a greater shot, and I've made millions of 'em" was gold. His I'd rather lose a match like that than win it struck me as absolutely sincere, which was pretty amazing. You see lots of losers make statements like that where it is so obviously contrived it was nice to hear one with some truth in it. Earl is entertaining, you gotta give him that. I watched a match posted just a couple of days ago (accustats, I think) against Appleton where Earl was playing like the Earl of old, brutally tough and accurate, and Appleton couldn't seem to do anything right, so much so I actually felt bad for him. One of the few times I've seen a pro actually give up in a match, he was completely deflated and disgusted, not remotely the usual Appleton. It almost made me think he was ill or totally distracted by something serious. He took shots toward the end that were just anger driven totally uncaring nonsense, like he just wanted to be anywhere else but in that match any longer. I really like your format of cruising through the match highlights with commentary, then flashing in your 'details at eleven' still to designate the shots to be recreated...slick and professional video work, that. Getting to where it could be another bullet entry in the ole resume. I don't know if you'd be as good on the fly commentating as you are here, but you would be VERY capable at that, as well, if even close. Cheers. Knock 'em dead, keep em comin. Great stuff, as always.
