Oh man, what nostalgia! Games from back when Tempests and Void Rays were actually decent units to make and so you actually saw them in professional games. Crazy!

Both void rays and tempests have their place in the matchup. I win with these units constantly. I agree with the nostalgia just not your viewpoint of the units

@@ballsavage Alright, what is the purpose of the Void Ray? And while Tempests do have a purpose, repeated nerfs to the unit and buffs to other units make them something you build two or three of now; gone are the days of Tempest pushes. Given their cost and build time, Carriers tend to be superior in almost every situation, which is why you so rarely see them.

@Betty white Outrange Queens? Why would THAT matter? Are you not scouting in the early game with your Overlords? Shouldn't you KNOW if your opponent is rushing out Tempests? They take so long to build and are so slow now that you can just make Zerglings and go across the map and kill them. Rushing Tempests against a Zerg is just suicide.

Tempest are one of the only ways to beat Mech right now and other late game strategies that require you to be able to fight Thors and ghosts, mines and turrets. Void rays are great at holding most PVZ cheeses and help the protos establish a third without lots of units. They have a strong place in PvP as well since they force stalkers and can help beef up a lot of early timings. They can also be used in the mid and late game against stargateless protosses to snipe bases even if you only have three or four of them.

@@ballsavage Terran Mech vs. Protoss? What you are going to do when they come across the map with Stalkers and Phoenixes at the 6-ish minute point? You won't have Tanks or Cyclones in enough quantities to defend, and Hellions / Hellbats are useless against almost everything the Protoss has. It's not like you can stop the Protoss from scouting that you are going Mech in the early game, after all, so any competent one will know what you are doing. Battlemech doesn't work against Protoss because the main frontline -- Hellbats -- don't DO anything against Protoss. Also, Void Rays USED to be good against cheese from multiple races but not anymore because they upped the cost and the build time, which is the ENTIRE PROBLEM. It USED to be a powerful early game unit, but they nerfed it in the worse way possible for an early game unit: by making it more expensive and take longer to build! That's why you don't see them anymore. Also, you don't make Stalkers to counter Void Ray harassment. Even saying that shows you know nothing about Protoss! You counter them with a small number of Phoenixes, which can move faster than the Void Rays and destroy them without taking any significant damage in return with proper micro due to how Void Ray damage works. Phoenixes are much cheaper, build almost twice as fast, and move MUCH faster than the Void Rays. Also, Void Rays don't "force out" Stalkers because you are ALREADY making Stalkers in large numbers in PvP. Building Void Rays into Protoss is pretty much suicide.

if you jump into a bottomless pit with a lake 2 things will likely happen: 1 you will initially drown. 2 as you descend into the pit, the water will fall faster, eventually stripping you of your protective cocoon.

He’s still playing. However an ultra-cheesy style is always very boom/bust: if your opponent can deal with the cheese, they basically always win. So he’s not really a top 20 player, unless there’s something actually imbalanced he can exploit.

I remember i used to watch sc2hl and get some legit sick games. Nowadays its just casino games being shown off. Like this one, there is nothing remarkable about any of these games. and they are definatly not the greatest protoss strategies of all time. The greatest where for instance when naniwa figured out the first one gas expand builds. Or when the mothership was first used versus the broken BL winfestor in WoL the first archon toilet. Not this "i hide a building/tech" and flip a coin if it gets scouted intime or not.
