Not more than 7000-7500 songs. Lata Mangeshkar or Asha Bhonsle could be more because Rafi passed away in 1980. Kishore Kumar is app 3000 songs because earlier he was more of an actor. Together Rafi, KK, Lata and Asha could be 25000 songs which is a huge number in about fifty years from 1950 to 2000.

I have greatest privilege of meeting Naushad Saheb four times and missed the golden opportunity of seeing Rafi Saheb in live recording, of course, which was my biggest desire. I have also pleasure of meeting Dilip Saheb. I am privileged to have exclusive discussion about Rafi Saheb with Naushad Saheb. I wonder if you agree with me or not since as per me - with respect to all the greatest music directors of Indian Cinema, I choose three to represent - NAUSHAD Saheb, S J the Greatest and rhythm king OP Sir. With due respect to all singers - Rafi & Lata ji are must for Naushad Saheb to express his best. S J who had distinction of getting best from all the singers both male or female still needed Rafi & Lata ji to give their best. Finally coming to rhythm king OP Sir, he by all means needed Rafi Saheb to give his best and proved to whole world that he could survive without Lataj ji but without Anmol Rattan Rafi Saheb he could could not express his best. Naushad Saheb has distinction of getting best from NoorJahan, Mukesh and Talat ji and all other singers who sang for him but needed RAFI Saheb and LATA ji to give ultimate and that applies to music genius SJ too who has distinction of getting best from everyone. I sincerely apologize if my words have offended some one. It is a fact that after the rift arose between Rafi Saab and OP, of course created by the latter, OP lost the Midas touch. His downfall started after Kismat (1968). log aksar bhool jate hai ki uska naam aur shohrat ke peeche aur kisika haath hota hai. In this case his fortune was connected with none other than Rafi Saab.

Sarbani Pal ji, you are absolutely right. By the time he realised his mistake it was too late. Because, it was too late by then. Rafi sahab could get back with a bang inspite of the maverick hurfan maula Kishore da riding the wave. This is because Rafi sahab could sing any type of song under any composer. However, O. P couldn't do without Rafi sahab. In the early 90's Nayyar Sahab composed music for a Salman KKhan ji tarrer film"Nischay" . The songs were melodious and sung very well by Amit kumar ji, for example "Dekho dekho tum".But by then the music trend had changed for the worse and O. P went in to Oblivion. We have other composer, singer combination that has given us some outstanding songs. Naushad Sahab, Nayyar Sahab, Shanker Jaikishan, Roshan ji, S. D Burman da, Chitragupt ji,L.p and Ravi ji came up with some extraordinary songs with Rafi sahab. S. D. Burman da, Pancham da, L. P. Bapi da, and Rakesh Roshan ji came up with excellent songs with Kishore da. Madan Mohan ji, Lata ji is another combo that gave us some classic songs. We should not forget the Unfortunate genius singer Geeta Dutt ji, who has given us some timeless classics, with Nayyar Sahab, Burman da, Hemant da and Kanu Rai ji. Jai Hind. Jai Bharat.

But O.P.Nayyar was firstly recognised by Asha ji, rather than Rafi sahab. Asha ji has worked with Nayyar in Chham Chhama Chham, released in 1952, for the first time. Here Asha ji got 10 songs out of 11 songs. The film became a milestone for both Asha Bhosle & O.P.Nayyar. After 1 year, Rafi sahab has sung his first song under Nayyar in Baaz (1953). O.P.Nayyar was a brilliant music director, but not a good human being. He has always done whatever he wants. On the recording of the film Pran Jaye Par Vachan Na Jaye, Nayyar misbehaved with Asha ji. So, Asha ji has never sung after this film under Nayyar & forgot him. It's very very good. I support Asha ji for this.

O.P.Nayyar was very egoistic and and never worked with people by whom he was hurt. He respected but never worked with Lata ji. After doing hit music of Nayadaur he fell apart with Sahir Ludhianvi as both claimed its success. Even He fell out with Asha Bhonsale and in his last film his female singers were Vani Jayrram and Daljit Kaur.

Which film was this, out of interest? Rafi Saab sang for several Sikh films: Nanak Naam Jahaaz Hai, Nanak Dukhiya Sab Sansaar, Dukh Bhanjan Tera Naam Ji, Man Jeete Jag Jeet amongst many many others. After all, he grew up in a community comprising Hindus, Muslims and Sikhs, and was involved in countless Punjabi productions from the early 40s. (By overlooking this, you are unfortunately giving a skewered view and not a balanced one. I wonder if you have any anecdotes of non-Muslim singers working for Muslim film producers...Just to redress the balance of course)

Rafi sahab & Asha ji have given the name & fame to O.P.Nayyar. O.P.Nayyar was a punctual person, but he must understand that a person may be late one or two times. Rafi sahab had already informed Nayyar sahab before that day, he had a song recording with Shankar-Jaikishan, so he might be late. Actually, I think it's just a poor reason. The quarrel between them started on the recording from the film Baharen Phir Bhi Aayengi. It's reported that the title song of the film was given to Rafi sahab firstly, but it was later given to Mahendra Kapoor (his 1st song with Nayyar sahab). After Humsaya, Nayyar sahab had not worked temporarily with Rafi sahab. O.P.Nayyar has done the same with Asha Bhosle for the different reason. Nowadays, the songs, sung by Mahendra Kapoor for O.P.Nayyar is not as memorable as that of Rafi sahab & Asha ji. O.P.Nayyar had harmed his career, doing some mad activities.

OP Nayyar and Rafi, both legends, you can't ignore any of them. OP Nayyar created a new voice in Rafi, undiscovered by Naushad, or SD Burman or others. Rafi is obviously incomplete without OP Nayyar Similarly OP Nayyar is incomplete without Rafi. Both of them had their ups and downs. That's part of life.But they survived and produced some awesome music!
