Excellent video. I’m very interested in doing the Loop, but have been hesitant because of the Locks and the fact that I will be Solo. This video has brought me much needed insight and confidence that it can be completed solo. I have been told by so many people that solo is impossible because of the Locks and their requirements for a minimum of two persons, preferably three, but your video has shown me this is not the case. Thank you for the insight.

I'm so glad this was helpful. There are no locks on the main Great Loop route that require two or three people. The Welland Canal, which few Loopers user to go between Lake Erie and Lake Ontario, is the only lock I know of that requires two or three people aboard. That lock can easily be avoided on the Great Loop.

Thanks Kim and Michael for sharing details about the Silverton. We look forward to seeing you both at the spring rendezvous. So maybe I missed it why the name "The Perch" Thx Scott
@GreatLoop2 жыл бұрын
It's "The Perch" because it was bought primarily as a comfortable boat for Margo, Michael's umbrella cockatoo.

@@GreatLoop . I thought Michael might have been a fisherman who caught a lot of Perch. 🐟🤷♀

Kim, thank you for taking the time to introduce your "3 B's" - boat, bird and beau. It makes your legs more entertaining, somehow. I did keep waiting for Michael to mention the one thing I would find missing: a below-decks helm. Fair weather or foul, too much sun, rolly or too damn cold, one is always helming from on high & exposed. Thoughts on that?
@GreatLoop2 жыл бұрын
Great question! We do not at all miss having a lower helm. Our fly bridge is fully enclosed with isinglass and canvas so it stays pretty comfortable and we can determine whether the isinglass should be opened or closed depending on the weather. We left the dock yesterday with the temp in the upper 40s and were comfortable on the fly bridge. If I had the choice, I'd pick the single helm again. I'd rather save the interior space for something else, and I don't envision us using a lower helm much, even if we had one. We tend to not cruise on really bad weather days anyway. So, I think the necessity of having a lower helm falls into the personal preference category. Hope that helps!

Have you ever seen “how to lose a guy in 10 days” and Kate Hudson starts to move the pink toilet seat covers in, pink bathroom mats, pink bath back scrubber, doilies, etc…lmao…..This was great….Thanks

As your time allows.... A question for the Captain - given a good budget and the knowledge of a seasoned boater would he consider having a "smart" boat with pods for the Loop? I know its been done. I've read NO WAY. Captain Mike's thoughts?
@GreatLoop2 жыл бұрын
Michael's thoughts are that shafts and propellers have been around a very long time and are proven. Pods have been around for some time now and are still quite expensive to maintain. When they work, they work well. But when something goes wrong, it is very expensive to correct.
