Have you showed him Borknagar yet? I think they're a great incremental step between this style from dissection and slightly more extreme-elements but still pretty melodic style of Borknagar and their many, super talented singers. However the big caveat on Borknagar is that they seem to be preeetty happy about blocking reactions so I'd understand if you can't really get any of those songs as reactions for the channel.

The main song structure is in 6/8 which is typical for valsas (waltz) this is one of the main reasons why this song sounds so classically inspired to me, Jon, always came off to me as one of the most musically gifted song writers of the late 80s and early 90s extreme music scene, the sweeping melodies, almost baroque chord progressions he naturally gravitated to and his almost neo-classic sensibilities always made me think that he was heavily inspired by classical music, now I'm not sure if that was the case in reality but just from enjoying his body of work that's what I always imagined!

It's like a repeating disharmony spiraling down to, well hell probably. It sounds cool, it affects me with awe just like seeing something dangerous, powerful such as a hurricane or other natural disasters, which can be really fascinating while dangerous. To me what nakes black metal black metal is the atmosphere and yeah if course the themes/imagery. Not necessarily satanic all the time, sometimes anti-christian without any satanic theme or sometimes pagan and other spiritual theming. While death metal may delve into satanic, anti-christian and spiritual themes it's more like in a horror movie soft of way, while black metal actually is more serious and wants to sound actually evil. Death metal wants to sound brutal more for fun, while black metal wants to sound evil to express spiritual ideas or to make an anti-christian statement (which some death metal bands still do). But it's not just about that, musically, it is generally more atmospheric and is more often tonal (mostly using harmonic minor) while death metal and thrash metal are a lot more often atonal, that being said black metal does also make use of dissonance moreso than regular death metal (as opposed to disso-death), usually for atmospheric effect, even if the atmosphere is pure chaos. Black metal also tends to have a "colder" sounding guitar tone with lots of treble and little bass and mid, it's thin and icy, and heavily distorted, moreso than other metal genres (at least when it first began). It sounds more harsh and sharp, like an obsidian dagger whereas death metal's guitar tone is more like a hammer or a chainsaw in the case of swedish death metal. The vocals are more often higher pitched too, and are shrill and harsh sounding. Black metal also tends to make more use of reverb than other metal genres, but not all bkack metal bands use reverb, just as not all black metal bands use lofi recording techniques but some do, or they moreso did in the early days, which was purposefully raw and distorted to sound chaotic, although it didn't start out purposely. The first wave if black metal which was more so just extreme thrash metal was mostly an underground scene (with some very popular bands like Bathory being exception) and a lot of bands would record demo taoes themselves and trade them. But in the second wave norwegian scene, bands like darkthrone were lofi on purpose, i mean just listen to their first album and second album back to back, their first album is a lot more clean and hifi sounding.
