Broken and misarble but she had swagger for days! She's done more in 27 years (as have the other 27 club members) than people would do in a life time. Bless their souls

One of those voices that come once in a generation. What a shame we lost her so soon.

I know from growing up in the UK, Amy Winehouse really kind of defined a generation of music for a lot of people here, her songs were so ubiquitous and she was one of those rare artists that people from all sides of the musical spectrum could agree was a massive talent and appreciate. Unfortunately though, the British press were absolutely fixated on her and were pretty brutal with her, I can recall how she was hounded by the media and the paparazzi in the UK until the day she died, in a way that we hadn't really seen since Lady Diana. It's truly a shame that we lost a great talent so soon, I can imagine how much more fantastic music she had left in her to create.

I was thinking this fairly recently re the British media treatment of Winehouse. Really shameful, and I don’t think they’d be able to get away with it today. Crazy how things have changed in a short amount of time. She was a true talent and should be remembered as such here.

I remember watching the tribute concert for Amy Winehouse after her death and Adele performed at the event. She even said that she wouldn't be the artist and singer she is today if it wasn't for Amy Winehouse who inspired her and so many other artists.

I am so happy I found this video because Amy Winehouse means everything to me. Like you for real just earned a new sub and I can’t wait to share this with my friend group. As for where to start next Amy’s other big hit was “You know I’m no good”. Which is basically a Jazz orchestrated tango with Hip Hop style drum patterns. But another good song of hers would be “Stronger than me” which most definitely shows her swag and cheeky writing style.

@@Greatmeasures Sweet! Adele is different type of singer of course (had her own struggles) and is actually the obvious go-to choice after Amy.. As you two seem to be into what I consider to be 'quality music': if you like a more leftfield 'poppy' choice, i'd recommend Lady Blackbird, and then especially the album Black Acid Soul. She is such a mature and soulful jazz singer (just for your own entertainment) I love the fact that you are changing it up by listening to each others musical choices. Great stuff!

I can't help but suggest you check out 10-year-old Angelina Jordan's version of this song. (If your initial reaction to that is, "Eh… I'm not really into child singers", don't worry: she doesn't sound like any 10-year-old you've ever heard.) She couldn't sing Amy's original lyrics (even the version of the song that you listened to here was censored in one spot, because of a particularly crude reference to male anatomy in the first verse), so she totally rewrote them from scratch in one day. Then she rehearsed and recorded the song with a small orchestra the next day, using an arrangement of Amy's music. And then the resulting "music video" was released the day after that. kzbin.info/www/bejne/gpO7hn6whN10ebc She was working with a subset of the in-house orchestra for the Norwegian radio broadcaster NRK, which explains the quick turnaround time. (Just for the record, her performance was very nearly captured live: she apparently only recorded two full takes, the seond of which constitutes almost the entire final product.) Anyway, not to "spoil" anything, but she really "leans into" the somewhat "monotonic" nature of Amy's vocal melody, so I can't say it's one of my favorite covers of hers to listen to. But she sings it quite well, and in her "Amy voice", so the effect is quite surprising to most people. (She is endlessly compared to Amy Winehouse, but trust me: she can sing in lots of other ways, as well.) And while I also have a few "issues" with her lyrics (she sings "I cry" one too many times for my taste), there are some real flashes of brilliance in there, too, IMO. (Unfortunately, the version of her lyrics that a web search will turn up - from a certain crowd-sourced lyrics website - is _riddled_ with errors.) If you do react to her, many Angelina fans will come out of the woodwork to give you a ton of information about her and to request lots of other covers and originals. She really is quite a remarkable talent.

Boy no the hell it wasn’t and don’t even start spreading that misinformation. This whole entire song was basically Mark Ronsons interpretation of 60’s girl groups. Specifically the song “Baby Love” by the wonderful Diana Ross and The Supremes. The song melodically samples from the beginning intro but creates an entire instrumental of its own. Making it more sinister with a Bonds like element. Please do your research next time before you type some more foolishness.
