Greatness Isn’t Meant for Everyone

Everyone hopes to be the one who achieves greatness but I honestly think that it just doesn't work like that, I believe that in order to achieve greatness you need to be great and that is something you are born with. Don't get me wrong and say that I don't believe that all humans should have the same rights, but I do think that we are different and you need to become great through what makes you special and unique but that won't happen in school, or in an office job that will only happen if you put on the shoes that fit you and not the shoes society gives so everyone is equal. Of course, there are many interpretations of greatness, but the idea is that you should do what greatness is to you and not what it is to me or society.

The problem is that greatness can also come through opportunity. If Mozart was a coal miner in the Congo, it is unlikely his music would have amounted to much
@Callum.C1
@Callum.C1 Ай бұрын
Maybe he would’ve overcome that challenge, maybe he would’ve realised what he was destined for, maybe he would’ve thought that his purpose was to no longer be a coal miner but to be something great, and that was his challenge. Him being born in that environment and overcoming it would elevate his level of achievement, maybe what ur saying is an excuse. Think about the people who opposed the Nazis in Germany? U think they just settled for less and thought uno what there’s nothing I can do, NO! they stood up to the status quo, so fuck that it’s not about opportunity it’s about risk how much r u willing to risk ur dignity, to risk being embarrassed, risk being disappointed and to lose or even die for what u work/believe and still continue and contribute to society in YOUR WAY.

well I agree but could all coal miners in congo be mozart given the same opportunities? What makes mozart special is that he is one of the only people out of the billions that have ever lived if not the only person ever who achieved such greatness given the opportunity. Equal outcome will never be achieved unless you are content with a "mediocre" outcome for all. Thus what we should achieve is equal opportunity and see who does what with it.

@@Callum.C1 opportunity is what made mozart what he is Thank you.The chances of him overcoming his struggle in the Congo seem highly unlikely. Not impossible, but so unlikely it makes your point seem idealistic and not grounded in any form of reality.

It’s not that everyone would be the same or normal if we were all great. We certainly could all be great, and the world would only be greater in turn but there’s no balance in that. Unfortunately the world always seems to need a balance of sorts even if it’s not 50/50 the scales just can’t be fully tilted towards one side or the other.

I need to be great. I am not meant to be loved, I am here to pursue knowledge no matter how uncomfortable it may be, be of service in virtually every sense of the word, and pursue all of my serious interests without allowing the fear of failure to impede my sense of action. Love isn't for everyone, and you can be certain that neither is is greatness.

The irony is that some people misunderstand this and apply differences to groups of people (to classify) and then unintentionally assume that all people in that group share common characteristics, creating similar (equality). Terence Tao and I are both Asian, but he is the Mozart of mathematics, and I am the Beethoven of stupidity.

"Why so few? Why is world history and evolution not stories of progress but rather this endless and futile addition of zeroes. No greater values have developed. Hell, the Greeks 3,000 years ago were just as advanced as we are. So what are these barriers that keep people from reaching anywhere near their real potential? Truly great take. I believe there’s a missing value, spiritual - the predisposition of nature, experiences carried through each lifetime “energy cannot be created nor destroyed” we are not flesh but a flow of energy from one order (world) to another. What makes greatness may be past experiences which “synchronise” themselves as intuition. Those who lean into their intuition come across some path or form of greatness.

Finally I found someone with the same mindset as mine. Yes while the path to power and greatness is full of sacrifices and pain, it is the resilience of us that will pull through it all. And if you think about it, the more pain, the more challenges it presents, the more satisfying the results will be. And after one achievement is another, you keep going! Power doesnt come to those who are born strongest, smartest or fastest, it comes to those who will do everything to achieve it!

I would first like to tank you for the amazing videos you provided us so far. I see that you have thought deeply about many different topics. I am curious to know what are your thoughts on aesthetics, I would very much enjoy a video about it. It is intriguing to me that we enjoy abstraction (philosophy, maths, art...) and I don't know if there even is a framework to think about this topic. Wouldn't talking about it be itself an abstraction of this very process of contemplating and generating beauty?

There’s an assumption that we all think of and define greatness in the same way. What is greatness? For example Martin Luther King Jr said: “Not everybody can be famous but everybody can be great because greatness is determined by service. You only need a heart full of grace and a soul generated by love” Maybe we should define it first instead of assuming we all define it the same way and acknowledge people see it differently. Also isn’t equality about acknowledging all humans have inalienable human rights? Equality is not saying everyone has equal ability in all things.
@Lesistius
@Lesistius Ай бұрын
He is referring to the fact that in modern democratic society, all people are presumed to be equal. And therefore all people should have access to and should be treated with the same rights and duties. Yet this isn’t the case, not all people are equal and not all people should be treated equally. That’s why he talks about individuality, the self development and the strive to want more and overcome limits. By treating everyone the same and rewarding everyone the same, there is no motivation to be better, do more, go beyond what people already know. In essence, only by seeing other have more and be more, can you find the power to be more and have more. (I like to refer to how communism had literally no progression because there was no reason to dare and be more, so new things and take risks.)

I think you got Equity and Equality mixed around. "Leveling the playing field" through equality does not suppress the greatness of the few but rather highlights the few that rise above the playing field. Equity seeks to level the players rather then the playing field. By leveling the players we put the few amongst the many and therefore suppress their greatness. This is the worship of mediocrity and a major problem modern society faces.

The nietz equality thing saying to suppress the weak is wrong, there’s numerous of stories and verses point to equality in the Bible, there is no verse that says everyone has the same talent. In fact the whole philosophy is to take a weak person and make them triumph over the arrogant who boast about their strength. Equality by humans standards has always been a myth, but equality by judgement and grace is true.

Burnt bridges maybe rebuilt, But water under the bridge may not be forgiven, Not forgotten, For the land was flooded, For the people drowned, For the houses, buildings, hospitals, schools flooded,fell, Oh how the bountiful land, Now having drought, Raising famines and wildfires, Was washed over by thee great flood, Washing away villages full of sin and lethargy, Washed away the great plains of dirt and mud, Of rocks and hard barren lands, Yet the great flood, A curse with blessing, Or blessing in curse. For it took more lives than a war, For it broke the great civilization full of pride, Took man back to stronger days, The old ways, The great ways, For great men were born, The men borne, Nurtured by the mother, Mother earth,mother nature, Man's own wife and mother of the sons and daughters, Those men rebuilt the bridge, Those men forgave the water, Not the dam, Nor they be damned, They forgave all but they fought the war, They rebuilt the bridge, With fire and might, Lit the kilns and forged the swords, and the hammers and thee beams, They rebuilt and built and built the society anew. They worked and toiled till at the end of the day, They saw a boy, Running about. And they smiled, Their old beards a flutter, They closed their eyes, Breathed a sigh, As life's wisps and toils left their gaping maw, Taking away the weariness and bring them their peace, To Valhalla these old men come. The boy saw them, Saw them sleep, Brows furrowed, The boy thought they can't see So let's light a fire to bring the great light The mischievous boy, Ran back and forth Gathered the woods and thee leaves And set fire to the tree, and the rack, and the shoes, And every other field, And watched in glee To give light to those old weary souls, Who had grew so old, That they had gone into forever sleep. A tribute to them, maybe a way, A path to walk to come back, And stop the great fire. Save the weak, But alas! The old souls didn't come back. All they could say from heaven, Was "Burnt bridges maybe rebuilt.... "
