@greatscottlab did you check if the MPPT controller wasn't broken? The wind turbine itself looks fine and may be worth it. I just suspect that they had to cheap out somewhere and that could have been the mppt controller. Also the spot welder looks really hackable. I find using a large amount of flux helps me melt the varnish around enameled copper wire. I don't know whether it's a chemical reaction, faster heat transfer through the flux itself, the solder wetting the wire sooner, which facilitates a greater rate of heat transfer, something else, or a combination of all of the above.

It's said that you should buy a higher generating voltage wind turbine than you're going to use it for as you're likely to get actual power to charge with at lower speeds, in other words, actually work. Not sure if there are MPPT wind controllers available but you could always put a zener on the gen output and if the solar MPPT rejects power the gen voltage will come up and go through the zener to a dump load to prevent no load overspeeding of the turbine.

I could be wrong with this but I think the gaps in the nickel strips located on the battery terminals are used that you place the spot welder probes on different side of the gap and thus lead the current to go through the battery and not the nickel strip. As I said I am not sure but, but in all of your footage you placed your probes on one of the sides.

@8:43 You are doing it wrong. The purpose of the gap in the nickel is to force the current to go through the cell's cap - which means you're SUPPOSED to put the contacts either side of the gap, not, as you're doing, always on the same side.

Just gotta get that cheapazz spot welder. Cells waiting to make two battery packs! As a side note, that wire spool looks almost like something I used many years ago. In the days of wirewrap, for home made boards there was a tool called Solderwrap. Instead of using sockets with long tails for wirewrap, you used regular PCB sockets and perf board. The "pen" was like this one and the enamel wire was strung from IC sockets and discrete components via "channels" consisting of plastic strips with "pegs" to route the wires between rows of sockets. Making it look like wirewrap, but soldered. Still have one in the back of my tool storage....along with wirewrap tools! What was old is new...AGAIN.... (signed) Retired octogenarian chip designer

I think you were a bit hasty on the Schumann Generator. Now, I've not used one, but I have seen similar kinds of things that really work. Not everything works for everyone, and if you dive into the scientific literature, you'll see that very clearly. That the Schumann Generator didn't work for *YOU* doesn't mean that it won't work for other people. I've looked at them before, but really, you've just peaked my curiosity just up past the BUY NOW point, so I'm going to buy a few and see what happens. 😉😝😇 PRO ALI TIP: Always buy more than one from different vendors as results vary for what are ostensibly the same things. e.g. I recently bought some ostensibly identical RF splitters for antennas from several AliExpress stores, and they were ALL different in one way or another -- one version had an entirely exposed conductive back - another had different positioning of the SMA connectors, and another was the only one with the SMA connectors soldered on both sides of the PCB.

you need sustained consistent toque from wind make the charge controller work. it will slow down as it will ramp in more amp out to battery and try to keep the blades spinning at low consistent speed regardless of the speed of the wind. faster wind low rpm lots of amps in to battery. slow winds same rpm but less amps. but controller slowly ramps that in to minimise damage to turbine and itself. you should only get very little if at all power if you are trying to hand spin them no matter how fast you spin them. attach it to a Moter and you can test it. .

I am surprised that the first item did not end it's life as the base of a Tesla Coil. The design is that of most bases of tesla coils and with your new enamel wire dispenser, you just need to use up a roll of toilet paper to get the cardboard as the base for the secondary winding. Depending on the polarity of the coil, you could " cheat " by having the secondary contact the center of the base coil that looks to be an exposed trace. Thank you for looking at these products, you may want to look into the cheap ceiling fans that are under $30USD as some of them are able to be converted into actually working generators.
