A real-life sword of the style he's holding might weigh about 6 pounds (2.7 kg). A long sword (two handed, of course) might weigh 3 lbs. A knightly sword AKA "arming sword" etc.) might weigh 2 lbs. And contrary to popular belief, a rapier could weigh more than an arming sword, but since its balance point is so far toward the pommel it makes it a nimble, responsive weapon.

There are some people who legitimately complain that resting the tip on the ground or using a sword against paper or something else along those lines is a good way to damage the blade.... so is using them on people, those people who constantly complain about someone using the weapon for practice completely forget that back in medieval times they were used on PEOPLE, and I'd say bone is a bit more abrasive than paper. There are no material evidence of greatsword scabbards existing that I am aware of, but I might definitely be wrong or lacking in information on that end. Most pictorial evidence of them in period art and manuscripts have them out and about without scabbards, which doesn't really prove a lot because those depictions were usually of these things in use. There are images of them being shouldered like how it was shown here last by mercenaries on marching formations however.
