Musicians of the highest caliber of our generation, and playing the music of one of the great neglected composers of the last generation. But does anyone else think the recording is lacking? It sounds like they're playing in a cave to me!

I do not know if it is because of Perlman's violin pointing in the direction of the microphone that makes him more clear in this recording. It could also be just that Perman's voice in the score is simply different and more hearable. Or it could be their different violin models that do the trick, Perlman on his Stradivarius and Zukerman on his Del Gesù. I would think that Gesù's, being more powerful, would clear the air better than Stradivarius' thus having more overtones...?

I feel the same but I wonder if this was intentional? Also, Perman's strad is one of the best sounding strads today and I wouldn't be surprised if it actually projects better than Zukerman's del gusu.

I think it is the angle of the camera and the inability for it to be recorded clearly. I saw this performance live and it sounded amazing!

Riiight....why don't the entitled audience members who illegally record bootlegs on their phones without permission have decent audio engineers, so the entitled KZbin audiences don't have to settle for second-rate free content rather than purchase a ticket or buy a recording?

I play classical music but I have no respect for such a disgraceful and racist musician. Zukerman must stop making culturally insensitive and ignorant remarks to young musicians who are Asian or Asian descendants.

@@christopherhogan691 FYI, Juilliard decided to not post the video of the recent symposium due to the "master's" behavior and language that upset many participants and viewers. The "master" officially apologized for his language.

@@christopherhogan691 First of all, you should know the difference between 'there' and 'their' even if English isn't your native language because you are a teacher. Second of all, you just made it very clear with the global KZbin community what your view is on young musicians with Asian heritage. Based on your argument, you seem to be prejudiced to your core. Taking over???? My ancestors were native Americans. European immigrants massacred my ancestors and took charge of the land. That is called taking over. Did Mozart and Rachmaninoff and all other magnificent composers write music only for Europeans to appreciate and perform had they known their music were to be performed and appreciated by the world? What about those professional and talented musicians with African heritage? Are they copycats, too because they have zero genes from Europe? I wonder if you are complaining about the blacks taking over the white territory of art, too? Should Black musicians go back to syncopated, call and response tribal music wearing leaves around 'their' hips in your prejudiced opinion? When Beethoven copied Haydn's music during his early career as a composer, I bet there were people like you who mocked Beethoven for being talented in copying Haydn instead of trying to see young Beethoven's hidden potential. The beauty of music and art is 'its' flexibility Mr. Professor. Music and art are interpreted in so many different ways whereas a math problem can only have one correct answer. This is why we listen to Bernstein's musical direction and Mehta's musical direction on the exact same piece of music. However, I bet Bernstein and Mehta weren't already masters from when they were 20 years-old. I bet there were real masters in their lives who motivated and inspired them purely based on their passion and love for music even if they weren't 'there' yet. Nothing else. Your job as a professor of music is to inspire and widen young musicians' musical perspectives instead of generalizing and stereotyping them based on race. (I'm reposting this as the original response got deleted)

This reminds me of a long-ago incident in the classical music world. Toscanini was conducting the NYP orchestra and presenting a work by R.Strauss. The time was during WWII. R. Strauss had made his political preferences known to the world as a Hitler supporter. So Toscanini prefaced the performance with, "To R. Strauss the composer I take off my hat, to R. Strauss the man, I put it back on." I've thought about that over the years. Having been born in the 50's, WWII was ancient history to me. But as I studied classical music I realized it is after all art. And art in history has been a catalyst to speak a unique voice to the world, often regardless of popularity or political correctness. Wagner, Beethoven, Shostakovich come to mind. So for me, when I listen, I hope to do so with an open mind. Without judgment and acknowledging that I do not know these men and women of music enough to judge them. Indeed, I have not lived their lives and experienced their histories. It is only for me to know what I can know with my two eyes, two ears, and heart, and then leave the rest to others. Perhaps Pinchus is another R. Strauss and might have a point to make? Just because the world doesn't like it, doesn't make it unworthy or wrong. If the history of mankind and classical music has taught anything, it has taught that!
