Reasons for picking this hotel: Did a mileage run in Greece to maintain Aegean Gold status so I decided to check out Thessaloniki for the first time. The hotel had a very luxurious and welcoming feel. The price was reasonable for Europe and for one night I wanted to splurge a little bit and enjoy some luxury. The hotel was offering a rate that gave 3,500 bonus points per stay, and since I was only staying one night, that was a pretty good offer for me to take especially when combined with the standard points I would receive as an elite.
Transportation / Access:
The hotel was about 17km from the airport and since I was a solo traveler I decided to try out the bus for 2EUR instead of spending 20EUR on a taxi. There was a convenient ticket booth at the airport and it was a relatively smooth 35 minutes into the city to the Aristotelous Square stop. Do bear in mind there’s no guaranteed seating on these buses so I pretty much had to stand the entire time.

Check-in was efficient and I was offered a welcome glass of sparkling wine.
The room is a small but luxurious, well appointed design. There were TWO good-sized wardrobes complete with robes and scale, a coffee station with a pod-style coffee machine, safe, mini-bar with typical over-priced beverages (5EUR for a coke)
There was a small safe that could fit a laptop, complete with a power socket inside to charge any electronics.
A small wall desk with Euro-style plugs and a wall-mounted TV completed the wall setup.
Next to the comfortable king bed were power sockets and USB sockets (which were thankfully 5V 3.0A) on both sides of the bed as well as a VOIP phone. Controls allowed for lighting mood control as well as electronic operation of the curtains. There was a couch / daybed next to the bed suitable for lounging around and long enough to take a nap if needed.
The bathroom was well appointed and the materials felt luxurious. The stand-up shower was fitted with Phytomer products.
In the morning I checked out the balcony which was surprisingly spacious and could easily fit 4 on a small couch and two chairs.
Breakfast was included as part of my Marriott platinum status and consisted of a spread of vegetables, cheese, cold cuts as well as an ala carte selection of eggs, omelette, eggs benedict or pancakes with fresh fruit. Overall quite nice and in a nicely appointed and luxurious space. I do wish they had a bit more choice though, and perhaps a lox option for the eggs benedict.
Final thoughts
The room is luxurious and comfortable, the surrounding neighborhood is conveniently walkable, overall had an enjoyable stay at the Monasty. Also this was in the middle of winter and it was so enjoyable to walk in a nice, toasty-warm hotel room.
