If you realize, Kageyama, Suga and Coach Ukai are all setters. They were thinking more from their point of view as setters therefore they think that Hinata request to try to hit the freak quick with his eyes open is not feasible with the time they have. However, Coach Ukai is a coach so he is thinking and considering more of Hinata's request.

This is what makes oikawa a great setter. Not only kageyama but suga and the coach also didn't understand hinata's pov. But when kageyama mentioned the stuation oikawa quickly understood hinata's thinking.

Some interesting facts about this episode: When Hinata tried to explained himself the first time he talked to the three setters, Kageyama, Suga and the coach, so they have a harder time understanding his side but they also know how imposible that set is already. Many reactors are immidiatly on Hinata's side because he is the mc so we tend to think he is always right, and it's not that he is wrong, he needs to stand on his own, for now he isn't doing anything but jump fast, he isn't in control even on the unique set only he and Kageyama are a part of, you take Kageyama out and Hinata has no reason to be in the court 10:51 And what he says here is rare even for top players, to see sooo much so clearly in less than a millisecond is incredible, that's why the coach didn't believe him at first But at the same time Kageyama is also right, there isn't much time and there are many aspects that they should improve, at this point Hinata still sucks at most parts, serving, setting, receiving, blocking (a middle blocker sucking at bocking is ironic) and to some extent spiking. Managing to aim with such a quick toss is almost impossible, that set is already almost impossible in real life, and the other aspects such as receiving are not only possible but essential. Another cool thing is that Kageyama said something like "your greed (to be able to stand alone) will throw the team off balance" which shows his growth from the tyrant in season one. It also comments on the dangerous thing he did with Asahi, since they could have gotten reeally injured (I feel it's not stated enough how dangerous that was) and now everyone is on edge What's interesting about this fight is that no one is wrong or right, personally if this wasn't an anime I'd even side with Kageyama, and that's taking into account how realistic this story is

Honestly i agree with everything but i would still take shoyo's side. This is the time to do practice, since that kind of quick attack only kageyama can do he can't even practice it with anyone else. Plus you can't expect him to just magically learn it in 3-4 hours when they practice and kageyama gets pissed. Takes time to learn something new, even if you are as talented as kageyama he should've known that. Just practice with him every day and see how it goes, just snapping and defining someone else's limits is not something you should be doing after one practice session of missing spikes. When kageyama says "you should learn to do basics serving, receiving instead" he is not wrong but that's not shoyo's main skills. It was also shown that just with basics they couldn't even beat any of those teams in the camp for 8 matches till hinata and kageyama showed up and then their quick helped them win. that means that quick is very important to their attack plus it won't work on tougher opponents like shoyo says. they need to do something about the quick which works against national level teams instead of shoyo learning serving and blocking and receiving. Ofc he needs to learn that too in his own time- but he can only work with kageyama for this quick and all he says is "you can't do it". that's not a good thing to say to someone who wants to get better. This is where kageyama also lacks and oikawa is better at.

@@FroYo1305 I agree that he needed more time, but that's because we know it's going to work, Kageyama said that because he was convinced there was no way the quick could improve, and he isn't wrong to think that, it's already an imposible set only they can do, they have no one to reference to be sure it would work if they just practice hard enough, and like he said there isn't much time. Of course I agree they had to improve the quick and if they hadn't done so they may not have gotten very far. But the only way I personally would side with Hinata (if it were real life and I didn't know the story) is if it was somehow a gurantee that it would work, because if not it could be considered a waste of time they could be spending improving in fixing already existing holes. I know you can also say that in real life you have to take risks and try even if it ends up being a waste of time because it can be more rewarding in the end (I'm no pro player so what do I know what's better?) but I think that's why it's such an intresting conflict, you can see where every side is coming from, and like I said before I don't believe anyone is right or wrong, I just know myself and if I were in that situation I know I would have sided with the one that seemed more possible. But I do agree that Oikawa right now is better in that regard because he understands who should be in control and isn't afraid to try it.

@@FroYo1305 Suga and Coach Ukai completely agree with Kageyama bc I think if Kageyama himself, with that talent, had all the doubt in the world to change that play, knowing Hinata has zero skill intelligence on vb (he can't even do a mere 'faint' atm) then Ukai and Suga had nothing to say on the matter. Bc they don't know the tempo factor yet at this moment.

I absolutely agree with what you have said but I'm still on Hinata's side. Kageyama is right that it is more reliable to improve on what they can do now than to work on something they were not able to do and destroy the balance of the team. I know Hinata also sucks at the basics. However, Hinata knows that if he himself does not improve he will not be helpful to the team to win and he would also lose his worth. History would repeat itself if things don't change. Like you said no one is right or wrong as they were all thinking of ways to improve themselves to help the team win. It really all comes down to how the changes they seek would be executed.

Just to add in this convo, if this were IRL, I'd still take Hinata's side TBH. Kageyama, Suga and Ukai are all right, of course. But it feels kind of unfair to Hinata. Yes, you want to prioritize the team but it should never hinder personal growth. Hinata's point has more weight to me. He'll never learn at this rate. And I think the setters are mistaking stagnancy for stability. Besides, you'll never win if you keep doing the same thing.

Hinata was asking Kagayama to practice doing the weird quick with his eyes open. Even Hinata knows that it will take time to perfect but all the others are against it because they don't think Hinata will be able to do it so it will be a waste of time. This is the time for practice, it doesn't matter if they lose because they can try again unlike a real match, and he is not asking to change up in the middle of a formal match.

11:40 I have never seen anyone make that comparison between Hinata and Oikawa, I love that 14:02 The freak quick is sooo quick because the set is happening with Hinata already mid spike, so if he changes his arm a little bit it's already off, and because Hinata isn't skilled enough he can't make up for that, besides looking at where to aim in mid flight is already difficult especially with such a quick set

This is not something I can take credit for noticing (if you want more detail, check out Quarkmire's comment on Sarah Pavan's video. Some nuances in what Hinata said when walking home with Yachi are lost in translation. He uses the word 相棒 (aibou), which, according to the original commenter, means more like a most trusted partner. You can have many friends, but only one aibou, and that is probably what made Yachi tear up!

These conflicts are both my favorite and my most disliked, because neither side is really in the wrong. It comes down to specialization vs generalization; Kageyama wants Hinata to become a better all around player by focusing on his shortcomings, while Hinata wants to polish his one skill to the absolute limit.

How are you supposed to practice something for the first time and expected to accomplish it right away. Hinata not hitting a single set is realistic. The whole point of training is to get better.
