A water build order would be great, and possibly some tips and tricks in regards to how water economy works. E.g. should one go heavy on fishing ships especially after winning water for oneself? Optimization question: i've noticed that in most games (not all but certainly a mayority, in both games you showed this is the case) there's a wood line next to the gold mine, so i'm wondering if it wouldn't be more optimal to build the storehouse between the mine and woodline so you save up on time and resources by not building the one next to the hunt and using strangler trees to do the shifts between the food vills to wood (min 3:42 if i'm not being clear) which would save 50 wood and make possible an even faster 2nd TC? Also, is there a reason why you seem to assign 3 vills tops to a pice of hunt instead of all at once? since they lose food over time it would make sense to me that the more vills the less food wasted (new RTS player trying to figure things out) Also also, thinking abt using TC attack as poseidon at the beginning of the game since stray arrows that hit other hunt and make them run away will come back bc of lure

great questions. 1) with respects to placing the storehouse near the gold mine/wood (3:42 into the video) this would not be an optimal location, for this to be useful it needs to be closer to the gold mine and the trees should be almost touching the storehouse to reduce walking time. if you look at 3:42 the storehouse I have at the bottom is hugging the treeline which is how you'd like it to be, secondly the issues becomes the transition for food vills, the other treeline is quite far, I would presume a 10 second transition? I think that alone would lead to a net loss. however there are some games that this would definitely be possible and advisable, using straggler trees leads to too much walking time. (note this is my opinion, I could definitely be wrong about it!) 2) the food decay in retold is really slow, but still it's something so you're definitely right. what you're suggesting is correct, you should definitely do it that way, however just remember to prep the second giraffe or animal prior to the first animal running out of food so all your vills dont shoot together which would reduce gather time 3) the animals will return to their starting location at some point, it's not due to lure, but yep you def need to be careful with it. let me know if that helps, feel free to ask anything else

How can I better deal with rushes after aging up? In the Poseidon build for example, whats the best way to allocate villagers after aging up so I don't lack food when building army? The timing seems challenging. In this build I can hold off the hard ai if I start building barracks etc right after TC but I have to move most wood vills back to food once TC is started.

You need to recalibrate your economy after the town centre is completed, meaning you take your vills for a tc, once it’s up you would put around 8 or so to food and 3 on wood and remaining to gold, you shouldn’t run out of food since there’s berries and chicken in your base along with your herdables. However, you’re right, it’s not easy and it’s not something you can do every game. If you’re struggling with it I’d definitely open with some stables, stables are a great way to get map control and defend yourself at the same time! Once again these builds are calibrated to get you to the next age, after you get to age 2 you need to reallocate your vills accordingly.

2 tc or you can go for hipps from 2 stables (make sure you do 4-5 gold and 3 wood, rest food) and adjust accordingly

it might happen at some point where it's better to stay in archaic longer, however the meta right now is full blown aggression so if you advance a bit slower you might have trouble securing your resources

Hey Magic, Awesome vid, very useful. :) Wanted to share my experience with it: I was looking boomy build orders as fast castle to 3 tc is all I do in aoe2 win or lose so the Poseidon one feels really good. I had a little trouble with clicking on age up at 15 vils because I lacked food and then for the 2nd TC I usually had to wait on a little wood. This is entirely possible because I'm bad at getting the hunt close to the lure. I'm experimenting around with 8 to food and 4 to gold and at first try classical age went perfectly but I did need a few secs to get the gold for the 2nd TC however I did build the house with a gold miner and maybe building it with a wood cutter solves that as well not sure.

In the circumstances where it looks difficult to get the 2nd TC up, such as Hades vs Zeus (no Ceasefire, Bolt can take out starting myth unit trying to defend 2nd TC) should the macro change to get military buildings up to get some defense out? Or what should be done if not military production to counter?

I should definitely do an age 2 follow up video for you guys, looks like many are struggling with that. Realistically what you do after you age up depends a lot on what you scouted, however the safest opener usually is stables, if you go second tc you generally have to defend, after you get an economic lead then you push out

Great content! What do you suggest after going for the early second TC? Build a few units to defend yourself and go asap to heroic or just boom and build military? Another concern I have is with the big amount of hunt all land maps have on Retold, would not be dangerous giving away all the hunt to your opponent when going for a fast 2nd TC?

@@pedroreis7078 going second tc sometimes is dependant on the resources nearby, if the tc is barren then it might not make sense, but usually there’s a little bit of hunt and a woodline which is generally ok If you’re opponent goes 1 tc and hunt and you’re going 2 tc and berries chickens and goats, you will eventually out scale him as long you defend well If you’re opponent goes for a second tc himself which is what usually happens then you can still take hunt on the rest of the map Usually I go 2 tc and then some units to pressure and get a feel of what I want to do, some raiding units to poke and prod and then depending on what I see I decide what I’ll do from there, for example if my opponent has really forward resources and hunt I can just go all out in age 2 and try to block him from that. But if there’s nothing to really attack then it’s best to age up and defend. Hope that helps!

It’s an easy way to boost your economy, many times a game is decided by who has more economy. There are two ways to really go about this, either we attack our opponent and destroy his economy and thus end up having a bigger economy ourselves or we invest in a town centre and grow our economy, the second is usually easier to do!

To issue multiple orders hold down shift and then right click with your units, second base gives you more workers which is a major bonus

I don't understand one thing. I never have enough food when I put 7 on food and 5 on gold. I always need to put one gold vil to food for a short time to get the food before needing to build a house to prevent idle time with the 16th vil. how do you manage it with 7 on food? I use the Lure at huntable animals. First 4 to food, then 2 to gold, then 3 to food again. Still I always have some idle time with the 16th vil because I don't have the food in time to advance. I was also wondering if fast heroic age is a good followup strategy after you have the second TC up? If so, maybe you could make a video on how to do that?

you're right but usually it runs out by the time your opponent has a truly massive raiding force/army, i think the pros outweigh the cons to put it near your hunt pack atm.

right now you can advance through anubis and delay his second tc with plague of serpents, then you throw down some rax and rally units into his tc. (usually only works with a really fast advance with set), isis will be a bit too late i'd assume

it's a bit tough to do it without ceasefire, just have to scout, if your opponent advances really quickly then i'd suggest first age greek hero and your myth unit to defend while you get the town center up. i'd also recommend going athena for restoration if needed! note that in some match ups you wont be able to get it up, for example vs zeus since zeus can bolt your hero and apply too much pressure. you'll have to ask yourself, can I get this tc up, what tools does my opponent have to stop me, if your opponent has tools to stop you it all depends on what you scout and what he does! hope that helps

My only question with this is now that you can boom eco with this build. Would it be wise to then go fast heroic or just make a classic army in case any other civ try’s to raid you. I could see fast heroic being like 6:45-7 mins and then pumping out units.

both options work! all depends on the game, if nothing is happening and no spots to attack you can easily jump to heroic but you might have trouble gathering enough food, so be careful!

hey! hmm it all depends, what was your main civ in AOE4? do you like aggro to kill or aggro to harass? Zeus hoplites can destroy buildings and they have two offensive god powers early that help you push (bolt and restoration from Athena) If you're looking to raid, i'd suggest Odin/Poseidon, they both get access to cavalry in age 2, Odin gets raiding cavalry which are the fastest and Poseidon get Hippeus which are a bit stronger but slower Set/Oranos/Kronos all have great options for rushing/pushing Sorry for the convoluted answer, the reality of it is that a lot of these options could work! you'll just have to give everything a quick try and see how you like it!

I don't think this is a good spot for that (too much walking time), I also don't want to use any tricks in these build order guides - I want it to be something that can be used on every map and not have to use little tricks like that to get a good advance timing.

for sure! This build gives you a great advance time without any delay on your town center, what you do after you advance is flexible. Just make sure you split your villagers from food accordingly, if you're going for a classical age rush you'll need around 5 on wood for some buildings (stables/barracks) and 4 or so on gold to make units. It will take some time to get these adjustments done well but definitely possible!

I had been playing around with a 15 pop hippeus + toxotes rush (1 stable and 1 range) but i remember older builds like the athena rush that uses 2 barracks and 1 or 2 ranges so i wondered whether just 2 military buildings was enough for a rush. Kinda hard to maintain unit production initially with more than that as it’s a little tight as it is.

it all depends on how you like to play, after you advance you can just put 5 on gold 3 on wood and the rest on food and start building hippeus, you can also put 1 on favor temporarily and get both your heroes out. i'll show some follows up in the future!

this is all player preference, some players start early and really enjoy having centaurs in their army for fighting and raiding, however most players start when they're going up to heroic since the myth units in heroic are significantly more useful. (don't forget to have a bit of favor for your second age hero, she's great)
