Same for Portuguese. Imperative negative is based on the subjunctive. Amazing!

This is easy to remember for a Spaniard, because we do the same, to form the negative imperative we use the subjunctive form: - verb: comprar (αγοράζω) - imperative: compra (αγόρασε) - subjunctive: compres (να αγοράσεις) - negative imperative: no compres (μην αγοράσεις) Thanks!

In portuguese is a little bit different: Verb: comprar Imperative: compre (formal); compra (colloquial) Subjuntive: compre Negative imperative: não compre (formal); não compra (colloquial)

There are two imperatives, the short and the continuous. Both of them have the same negative form (μην) but the verb is different. Μην μαγειρέψεις. Μην μαγειρεύεις. Μην γράψεις. Μην γράφεις.

My Greek language keeps improving with your help, many times before I used to see some Greek words that are confusing or tricky but then you came and make everything clear, just like the word "μην" it appears to me many times before but now I know.

How exactly do we know when to use μην or δεν

Δεν For all the tenses ( present, past, future etc) Μην 1) Subjunctive (when there is "να" in the sentence) - Να μην μαγειρέψεις. 2) Imperative (commands) - Μην μαγειρέψεις. - Μην κλείσεις την πόρτα.
