Wonderful video as always, although I have a quick question - the verb to eat (τρώω) is an irregular verb that turns into φάω in the simple future. However in your example, you used τρώει for the simple subjunctive. Which conjugation of the verb to eat should I use in the subjunctive? Also, I just came across another two verbs where the subjunctive can be used - need (χρειάζεται) and hope (ελπιζω). Thank you so much for your amazing work, your videos are helping me so much in my studies.

Hi! Your question about the continuous tenses/moods of the verbs is B1 level! The simple subjunctive is used more often than the continuous. The simple subjunctive shows something that you want to do now and just for one time. Example: θέλω να μαγειρέψω. The continuous subjunctive shows continuity and repetition. It is something that you want to do many times. Example: Θέλω να μαγειρεύω κάθε μέρα. The same idea applies for simple and continuous future. The simple future is used more often and for something that you will do once! Εxample: Σήμερα θα πάω στο θέατρο. The continuous future shows that you plan to repeat one action in the future for more than one time or it will last for a long time. When you use the continuous most of the times you will have a key word in the sentence, like: κάθε μέρα, από αύριο, από την επόμενη εβδομάδα, πάντα etc. Example: Από αύριο θα πηγαίνω στο σινεμά κάθε Κυριακή. Από αύριο θα διαβάζω κάθε μέρα. Kind regards :)

Γεια σου αγαπημένη μου Ειρήνη! Σε ευχαριστώ πολύ! There are some rules about the i and o that apply for the endings! For example: a verb at the end will always have an -ω. ( Κάνω, πίνω, θέλω, μιλάω ). The nouns and adjectives at the end always an -o (βιβλίο, φίλος, δάσκαλος ). The verbs at the end will always have an -ει (θέλεις, κάνει, μιλάει) but the nouns and adjectives an η (φίλη, μαθητής, φοιτητής, καλή ) or an ι ( παιδί, σπίτι) according to the gender! There are no rules for the beginning or the middle of a word. It us just pure memorization! For example: μητέρα ( η is historic orthography which means pure memorization!) OR οικογένεια (οι, ε, ει pure memorization again!). Hope that helps. 🙂

@@greeklessonsonlinevideos Yes, but when explaining this for foreigners, it is much more practical to refer to infinitive, since this is exactly what it is in English, Swedish, Polish, French etc. Subjunctive in, for example, Spanish, French or Icelandic (or even English) is something totally different. It is a verb form that changes in accordance with its position/context in a broader sentence. Maybe that's what it is called in Greek, but it is highly confusing. But again, I think you are a lovely teacher :). Just pointing something out that I am sure many people would too :)
@greeklessonsonlinevideos
@greeklessonsonlinevideos Жыл бұрын
Thank you for your comments. Subjunctive looks like the infinitive but it is not. At the beginning of the sentence it takes the meaning of "should" When you combine subjunctive with an article we create something like the gerund. And then comes the continuous subjunctive. There is no short and continuous infinitive. And there is no infinitive translated as "should" or "gerund". I might facilitate the A level students refering to subjunctive as infinitive but when they start the B level they will be completely confused. And that's why I may mention sometimes "listen subjunctive looks like the infinitive but it is not".
@j.o.1516

@@greeklessonsonlinevideos Thank you for the explanation. In my opinion, it is far better to learn the terminology that is appropriate for the Greek language. Every language is different, so using terminology that may apply to another language, but not to modern Greek, would only make things more confusing. As there is no infinitive in modern Greek, it would be wrong to call this "the infinitive".
