Hi Alexia, hope you are well! I have a quick question - in the simple past, if I were to use the (-ε) at the end of the conjugation of the third person plural rather than ending it in -αν as in your examples, would I then shift the accent and not require the additional epslon for verbs of 2 syllables? For example έκαναν, would this be κάνανε, and έψαξαν would be ψάξανε? Is this simpler conjugation of the 3rd person plural not very common in spoken/written Greek because it does look simpler. Thanks! Luiz
@greeklessonsonlinevideos
@greeklessonsonlinevideos 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Luiz! Yes you can use this form and you will have to shift the accent exactly as you mentioned. We use both types, there is no difference! Choose the one that is easier for you! 😉

Thank you so very much. We love you. Now the past makes sense to me since I followed your instructions and learned the future first. Before I found you, I only memorized the conjugations because I did not have anyone to teach me the rules. I do have two questions about the rule of 3 syllables. #1. If you use the verb " αγόρασα" and choose to use "ανε" for "they bought," will you change the accent on the verb with the syllable count to "αγοράσανε" instead of the accent placement used on "αγόρασαν"? #2 On the example sentences, we used the verb for "to go" in past tense as "Πήγε." This has only 2 syllables. So this verb does not apply to the rule of 3 syllables? I apologize for asking so many questions. It is my goal to learn as much as I can from your videos and then to hire you as my tutor to practice my ability to listen and talk to understand. That is the most difficult for me.
@user-xh9rz7rf8l
@user-xh9rz7rf8l 2 жыл бұрын
In the first case, nothing changes, as long as you count three syllables before the tone (in both cases it is the same). In the second case, be aware that there are some exceptions - and that is why we call them irregular verbs, where verbs would lose their euphony if they followed the rule, eg (πηγαίνω or πάω - πήγα / βρίσκω - βρήκα κλπ)

Hi, i really do appreciate your effort on the lessons, and it helped me a lot to understand more, may I ask if you have a separate lesson that will help or guide atleast on where to put the accents on a greek word/s, the same as this lesson that the accent must be on the 3rd syllable before the ending (the rule of the past tense verb). How about other words? Is there any rule or pattern to know about the accent/s of the greek word/s, where to put them? Ευχαριστώ πολύ
@greeklessonsonlinevideos
@greeklessonsonlinevideos 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Ellen, each word has an independent accent. Only in the nouns and some verbs you can apply a rule. I advice you to learn each word with the accent and then apply the rules (plural nouns, past tense, genitive case etc)

Μια ερώτηση παρακαλώ. Στο τελευταίο παράδειγμα, γιατί είναι «το λογαριασμό» και όχι «τον λογαριασμό»;
@memorybox5578
@memorybox5578 4 жыл бұрын
Here's the explanation. In case you don't understand, I can explain it in English as well.

You can use the final "ν" always. The "masters" wanted to make our language poorer.
