St. Nektàrios was from a town called Συληβρία / Silivría in Eastern Thrace. Today is called Silivri by the turks. St. Nektarios was from Thrace and his name was Anastásios Kefalás before he became a Episcope/bishop in English. It is said that one day while he was praying in front of the icon of Panagía Silivrianí that there was at Silivría Lady Theotokos, Maria herself appeared before his eyes and asked from him to write a hymn so the Angels will sing to her! St. Nektarios wrote that hymn and he taught the flock of his church to chant it.
