@@basil4379 That might just be the single most dangerous destructive delusion I have ever heard. The teaching of the Orthodox Church at least is clear: there is no repentance after death. The only help for the reposed is the prayers of the living for them. If there was repentance after death, then there would be no point in praying for the dead and indeed no point in even being in the Church or living as Christ has instructed us. If you like I can provide some relevant quotes.

@@Sendo664 I am not sure what you mean when you say that we should "all have at least the same traditions". We have the same Faith, the same spiritual life, the same Divine Grace, the same mysteries, the same prayers, the same saints (though some are revered more in one place and others in another). The differences that you are noting are not essential. It's actually a good thing for each land to have its own style. Do you see? The church is the same everywhere, but the architecture can vary. The saints are the same, but the style of painting can vary. Do you see that these differences are not a problem? They are expressions of the personality of each people, of each land. The Orthodox Church, The Church of Christ, is in fact the only true "globalisation", if we can use that term: we are all brothers united in one Faith, under one Lord Jesus Christ, yet without losing our personality, our individual characteristics, our national identity, our independence. In the Church, we are "we", we are a community, a communion of persons, where each one cares for the other and gives to the other, not because he is forced to do so by some communist government but freely, because of the overflow of love for his brother. This is the Royal Path between the impersonal absolutism that effaces the human person and debases him to a number among a crowd "for the sake of the common good" (supposedly) and between the individualism of the West where each one is "I", by himself, the individual first. This same thing that applies on the personal level also applies on the national level. All nations are united in God, but they are still distinct nations, just like at Pentecost. There, God did not abolish the many tongues: He just enabled the apostles to speak them all. Now, specifically regarding kolyva, I know the Russians also have them, though not as often as the Greeks. I'm not sure about the other local Churches, but I would think they also make kolyva at least for the Saturday of St. Theodore in Great Lent. In the Greek tradition (which might also be the case in many other local churches for all I know) they are offered for two reasons: a) the repose of the departed, and b) to honour a saint. Now, if a certain local church has some other way of fulfilling these, it seems to me that the difference is only superficial. As for the Slava, the Serbs have one saint as the patron of an entire family, and they celebrate his feast-day. Well, many others (including the Greeks) have a patron saint for each member of the family, and they celebrate the feast-days of them all. It's essentially the same thing, the only difference is where the emphasis is laid, on each person or on the whole family. I hope this answers your questions! Christ is Risen!!
