Reed and Clowny appear to be the only ones considered here that make sense to me. Not only can perform well in their positions but also rate well against the run. We all know our run defense is our weakness year after year. Adding these players through trade make financial sense, could be attained for a reasonable price, and benefit the team without adding to the deficiencies we have.

The Packers are the youngest team in the league, with a relatively flexibly salary cap, and are built to contend. So, if I were the GM......this is the time to try to trade for a big time "final piece" and not be afraid to give up a 1st or 2nd round pick to get him. And because the Packers f'd up and didn't pick a top cover corner in this past draft, it follows that the corner spot opposite Jaire Alexander has yet to be occupied by a shut-down man-on-man specialist....which Hafley's defense requires to be at peak disruption. The Packers should scour the NFL for a top man-coverage corner (pro-bowl level), who's contract is almost up and his team won't want to pay it. So, the Packers, with a solid cap situation, can swoop in and grab him for a 2nd rounder or late 1st rounder if the player is a pro-bowler/all-pro. That one cover corner spot is the last missing piece for ensuring a championship run for the next 3 years.

I don't like any trade that includes giving up anything higher than a late round pick. We're killing it in the draft, keep it there. I do like the idea of moving on from Preston Smith. There is a lot of $ there that we're not utilizing. I'm intrigued by any of the edge options as they looked better financially and may get more use out of the trade.

Dexter Lawrence DT defense is weak once again against the run and still we run to cb!!!??? DT and edge (Ojulari solid) needs to be top priority. Jaire and Nixon (needs to start opposite) depth valentine balentine stokes. Keep bullard and Nixon in slot in certain packages. Because the Packers already gave up a 7th round pick for Willis, Packers will not make any trade where they have to give up draft capital above the 6th round. Gute loves draft picks too much to do that! A trade to gain draft capital is a good possibility, or a player for player trade is also more likely possibility than given up draft capital. @@Basaraski That’s a fact. I just don’t think it’s substantial enough to jettison a draft pick to bring him in. I’d rather trade P. Smith for a pick and bring Cox or someone in. Gain a pick, save money, and learn more about who we have currently. Young’s 12 more pressures than a severely underperforming Gary is basically giving away draft capital for a player who’s gonna perform barely better than the guy on the milk carton. With that said, I love your CB trade thoughts. Most of those guys would improve our CB room. I’d rather move Preston, bring in Cox to rotate with LVN while also seeing what we have with Brooks at DE. 12 more pressures isn’t worth a draft pick to me.
