Thank you for another great Combat Story episode. I'm a former teammate of Darrel Utt and I was in same Scout Platoon in Korea with Karl Erickson before we both went SF. The reason for this comment is to note another significant April 14th event. This one in 1994, eleven years before Darrel's and Ryan's Death Day. On April 14, 1994, 26 crew and passengers of two U.S. Army UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters were shotdown over northern Iraq by two U.S Air Force F-15s. There were no survivors. I participated in the recovery. Ricky Robinson and Paul Barclay, two teammates from ACo 2nd Bn 10th SFG(A) were passengers. I participated in the recovery at the shoot down sight. Anyway, I remember them on that anniversary as well as today, Memorial Day. Although not a death day, it was my worst day. I'm glad Darrel and Ryan made it through their day. Anyway, I remember Ricky and Paul and the rest of the dead on that anniversary as well as today, Memorial Day. Thanks again for the great podcast.

Holy shit, so the air force shot them down? What happened and how’d they get confused on who they were shooting
@getothfam
@getothfam 4 ай бұрын
@@connormason7517 There were many contributing factors. IFF issues, communication issues with AWACS, F15 pilots' failure to ID their targets and the fact that the UH60s had external tanks which made them look different than a UH60 without them. You find reports on the incident if your google fu is good.

As a former Green Beret (18C), I love hearing other group’s experiences in the GWOT, especially coming from an 18D. My medic teammate was my best friend, and we volunteered for every school together, to include: ranger, special forces sniper, and various others. He was the utmost professional and subject matter expert, just as Ryan is. This is bringing me back to the good times (misery loves company) and the bad times with the crazy, but incredible honest, sf medics. De Oppresso Liber

May I ask a question? What was the feeling like when you or your brother in arms first put on your special forces tab on your shoulder. That must of been an unbelievable feeling. God Bless you and your family. Thank you for your service.

Ryan, another outstanding Combat Story. Your guest Ryan Neel former Special Forces Green Beret and medic is an American Hero, as are many other service members. I wish millions of our American Citizens could see this video about Ryans life and military career. So many of our citizens have no clue about the wars and the people who served and the ones that fought in them. Wish Rayan all the best with his family and new careers.

Loved the comment about clarity in the military vs the private sector. I've been in the private sector all my life but I listen to these stories and the contrast is incredible. Pretty sure I would have been a hell of a lot happier in one of these units.

Ryan, Ryan and fellow veterans, I am a Social Worker and an OIF/OEF Veteran. I have some deployment experience but basically spent my time “in the rear with the gear”. Ryan N., I was actually stationed at LSA Anaconda but not at the point when Brock (hope I’m spelling it correctly) would have been there. This episode moved me so much. My point here is if there is any way I can help at all, please reach out to me.

Great episode! Thank you for sharing your story with candor and heart. I understand from the opposite side - when Ryan spoke about families, it is difficult for all members in the family - thank you for sharing. Ryan I found your podcast when I went down a rabbit hole RE PJ's and 18D medics. I appreciate your podcast style and your guests & their stories so much - I keep coming back to lewrn more from these amazing men & women. I have been a military wife and I am surprised to find many similarities & difficulties (from my POV) between Navy carrier combat pilots and their "jobs" and spec forces. Thanks!

Honestly, I love this podcast. Constructive feedback on the “you know”s is where I am coming from. This Green Beret is an amazing warrior and per usual, Ryan asked outstanding questions and made it about the guest, not him 👍🏼. As a retired Marine that often gave briefs as I moved up through the ranks, fluidity of getting the brief across was to minimize “umms“ “like” “you know”, etc. Such a great combat story and while this was a bit distracting in no way does it detract from this brave soldier’s actions. Full disclosure: I never briefed hundreds of thousands of folks on the inter webs so nerves are to be expected and I’m not saying I’d do any better!! Cheers and Semper Fi 🇺🇸
