Thank you for the video, it is very useful to me. I have a question. My green card had a typo error made by USCIS and I filled I-90 and applied for replacement of green card. However, after one year, I am still waiting. Online says "please wait" as there are so many applicants. I want to travel during this time urgently to visit a sick relative. I cannot even get an appointment to visit them even though I tried. They keep saying please "wait" for some more time. Do you have any other suggestions please? Is there a way to walk-in and explain?

Thanks, great info. I appreciate your knowledge and willingness to share it. Quick question. Ive been a green card holder for 7 years now. I spend the majority of time in my homecountry as i do busines there and partially in the US where i have business too. Im an independent proffesional. Im always back and forth without spending more than 5 months outside the US. Would ike to apply for citizenship but dont quite fit with the 50% rule that requires that in the last 5 years one would have to reside at least 50% of the time within US soil. Do you find this fact enough to inhibit me to apply for citizenship? or should i just go ahead and apply without major ocnesquences if the process is denied?. Side note: my son who received his green card at the same time me and my wife did, just became a US citizen as he did reside in the US for th last 4 years while attending college. Thanks

Hi, I'm currently on a trip for 6 months August - Feb. (5 months and a day before the 6 month period to be exact) and I'm planning to stay for 1-2 more months (so 7-8 months overall if possible). I'm a permanent resident in the US and already completed my 5 year statutory in 2020. I'm planning to apply for my citizenship when I get back to the US this year. My question is, will my 5 year period reset back to 0 and have to redo my 5 years before I can apply for my citizenship again? I have proof that I'm still a resident and I've been and still living in the same house for 5-6 years, have a US bank account, drivers license and will pay my tax when W2 becomes available. Please advise.

Good video, chock full of practical pros and cons. I understand this video is geared towards an audience interested in the family, travel, and financial implications of US citizenship. Those are huge ofcourse. It's also worth mentioning a sidebar to consider....do you agree with American ideology/the Constitution/the American position policy in the World? For most, that's an easy choice, a non-issue. Just saying, a point to consider, as renouncing your original country's citizenship and taking an oath of allegiance to the US is not a small thing.

I believe there is no problem in getting your pension living outside the US but the problem is you have to live in the US as a green card. if not you will loose your GC and charged you as abandoning it. Then your pension is affected once your GC is revoked. In this case, you can no longer enter the US without a valid green card. Better to be a citizen than a green card because you can live outside the US as you can.

Romanian passport can visit 174 countries without visa. All countries in EU + all Schengen countries not in the EU. But still, Romanians cannot buy apartments on the corner of a table, on a napkin, in a foreign country. Americans can do that. That's a major advantage. Want an apartment (house) in Katanga ? You can buy it. Romanians never even heard about the concept.

If it ends up being greater than 6 months but less than a year and you can show the border official you had intent to return or could not return due to extreme circumstances (like no flights from your country to the US), you should be ok. However, I would recommend calling an immigration lawyer to talk through all your options. Check out avvo.com (I am not affiliated with them in any way) - if you need a free consult, you can check the box to see which lawyers offer free consults. Good luck!

After 5 years of being a permanent resident, I had to apply for a second time because the first time was during my marriage to an American spouse, but now I'm facing a divorce. So my attorney suggested me to withdraw my previous application and apply based on my 5 years as a permanent resident. I wonder if still I will be asked questions about my current marital status.

Sometimes the oath ceremony can be on the same day but usually you get a letter soon after your interview w the oath ceremony date. You’ll find out when you get there! When you join the Armed forces with a Green card, you would need to apply for Citizenship as soon as you join in, the Armed forces pay for it and it would take you less than 3 months to get it. However, you must fulfill your contract with the Armed forces and not get expel from them; once they expel you the USCIS will revoke your citizenship due to unable to complete contract. This process was approved by then President George W. Bush through the Executive Order Expedited Naturalization of Aliens and Non-citizen Nationals Serving in An Active-Duty Status During the War on Terrorism in July 2002. Section 329 of the Immigration and Nationality Act 8 U.S.C. 1440. I hope this helps.
