Oh yes the had energy and craziness, lots of it, until september of 2012. Then Billie went to rehab, sobered up finally, quit all the prescription pills and so forth, and in 2013 the craziness was gone. However, the quality stayed! And the don´t lack of energy I think. It´s just not the same as before 2013...

Billie Joe's guitar tone should be essentially the same as it ever was, at least when he's playing Blue. He's using the same modified Marshall head from the 70s (PETE) now that he used on Dookie. His higher gain tone on Kerplunk and 39/Smooth is from an early Marshall JCM 900 (same one in the Basket Case video), which is a higher gain amp to begin with.

Mike had carpal tunnel syndrome back in the late 90's early 2000's because of bass lines and solos like Stuck With Me. He could probably still do it but this song was number 39 in a 40 song set so by this point in this show particular he was most definitely too tired to even try the solo.

You cant really hear the guitar in this clip, thats the main problem. Green Days live guitar tone was a lot nicer in 1995, up untill Nimrod it sounded great, although the Insomniac tone was a little bit weird. The worst was Warning.

I saw them live this year and the guitars sounded great! Not clean at all. Even their guitar tech said anymore gain than what they use now, it doesn't sound good. They never used more than four on their treble so obviously, they didn't have plenty of high end.

Nah, I hated the live tone from 94-95. They cranked up the master and gain too high compared to the Insomniac/Dookie. Now, the tone is much better. It's tighter, punchier, and a lot more full and bassy. They put in a EQ pedal with the low end cranked up.

It's obviously not clean. It's overdrive. Their 95 tone was a lot of gain. Now, it's good amount of gain. Their EQ is the same, actually. And the amount of bass they have is the same as 95 so that's saying that 95 was too bassy. Their whole band is all about low/middle end. Tre uses freakin massive toms, Mike's bass sound is nice and warm, and the guitars are all about bass and mids. High end is for losers and people who play clean.

Back in the day they had a brilliant crunchy metalic tone that you wanted to take home with you, now their tone is just like everyone elses. Putting an EQ pedal on a guitar and cranking the bass is such a stupid idea, like bass frequencies are a problem live! If anything too much bass is the problem. Bass in a dist guitar tone should come from gain, not pedals. I cant stand that "clean" distortion sound, people need to stop overthinking their tone; ultimately distorted guitars should have grunt

What?? Green Day made their name as a rock band with loud distorted guitars with plenty of high end. What losers they must have been. Now its a very clean distortion sound, end of. It has its benefits, it sounds more juicy, but you lose that wall of sound noise and you lose the effect of power. You also lose the crunch and grunt when palm muting. It needs a proper helping of gain. Why are you pointing out the EQ and then saying its the same? The EQ isnt the problem, its the lack of crunch
