Lyrics:
Summer has come and passed
The innocent can never last
Wake me up when September ends
Like my father's come to pass
Seven years has gone so fast
Wake me up when September ends
Here comes the rain again
Falling from the stars
Drenched in my pain again
Becoming who we are
As my memory rests
But never forgets what I lost
Wake me up when September ends
Summer has come and passed
The innocent can never last
Wake me up when September ends
Ring out the bells again
Like we did when spring began
Wake me up when September ends
Here comes the rain again
Falling from the stars
Drenched in my pain again
Becoming who we are
As my memory rests
But never forgets what I lost
Wake me up when September ends
Summer has come and passed
The innocent can never last
Wake me up when September ends
Like my father's come to pass
Twenty years has gone so fast
Wake me up when September ends
Wake me up when September ends
Wake me up when September ends...

Yup, been haunting me ever since it was released as a single of the album in June of 2005 when I was in my 20's in Iraq. The lose of his father hit my heart as it was super close to how I lost mine. Than the Video was made after I'd done two extended tours and lost the girl, but are kids are now the new gen🙊🙉🙈

Short story behind the song... Green Day lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong wrote this song about his father, who died of cancer on September 1, 1982 when Billie was just 10 years old. At his father's funeral, Billie cried, ran home and locked himself in his room. When his mother got home and knocked on the door to Billie's room, Billie simply said, "Wake me up when September ends," hence the title. Pretty darn sad but awesome of BJA at the same time. If that's true... Is pretty cool.

This song was in my 25 year old sons phone. He died on 9-23-2014. His summers will never end. My heart just breaks everyday, but hes never gonna feel pain again. Just love. I've been raising his son, as my grandfather did for me. Hes 9 now and i recognize everyday, hes just like his dad. I got a do-over, but ive give my life for them to grow up together. Honor the tears, they cleanse the soul..

aye i really feel for you. This song my brother used to play greenday across from my room from our connecting bathroom, I could hear it all the time. He loved them as much as any kid could at that time. had posters all over his walls. Spiked his hair and started dressing emo. I remember him playing this song.. Different times man. I lost my brother( a stupid heroin overdose) when he was 25 as well in september of 2016...ironic. I could not wait for september end but the truth is, is that the rest of my life I will always have this incident and loss just there. Like always there. Life is jst not the same anymore

Yes we did. Green day was one of the only bands that realised we were fighting a war for 10 years, all through their hay day. Yeah, Osama Bin Ladin attacked us, but Billy Joe knew that the U.S was using that as an excuse to send a bunch of kids to die in countries that had nothing to do with that. Armstrong's a smart dude and spoke up about it. Dick Cheney's war.

Billie, the singer, wrote this about his father who tragically passed away in September when he was 10. He said, “Wake Me Up When September Ends”, to his mother when she checked on him after he ran home from the funeral because he couldn’t handle it. 7 years after his father passed, he joined Green Day, and 20 years after his dad passed, he and Green Day wrote the song. People absolutely can joke about this song, I’m just explaining the meaning of the title if anyone is curious. Edit: Thank you for all the likes! Green Day fans are the best!

Green Day lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong wrote this about his father, who died of cancer on September 1st, 1982 when Billie was just 10 years old. At his father's funeral, Billie cried, ran home & locked himself in his room. When his mother got home & knocked on the door to Billie's room, Billie simply said, "Wake me up when September ends," hence the title. (Edited:thanks for all the likes!)

My bestest friend died when I was 8 and he was 9. Drowned in my pool in September 1991. One of those (as a kid) “he’s coming up, right?” Adults watching us and it literally happened so fast. September is still the month where I can’t ever pull it together. I cried for what felt like days and days and at his funeral, I couldn’t cry. But seeing his (completely single) mama at the end of his funeral destroyed me. We all put red roses on his casket and said our goodbyes. At the end, she put a white rose… and she suddenly 4:08 cleared all the roses and tried to open his casket and kept screaming “why did you leave me!!!!!” A moment that could never leave my head or my heart. I visit him anytime I’m in town and hurt… I’m sorry he didn’t get to grow up… he didn’t get to go to prom, he didn’t get to have kids or get married. I was so close yet so far when he passed. My bestest friend, Eddie. I loved you buddy. Red ninja turtle forever ❤

This song really hits home now... My parents passed away Sept. 2020 from complications due to Covid... My father passed first and mother seconds after. Though they passed hand in hand, it's the hardest thing I've ever dealt with. I nearly died from a broken heart but knew I had to pull myself out of that dark place to take care of my own family.

I'm so sorry and I understand how hard it was for you and how hard it is to get over it, be strong you have your whole life ahead of you even if your parents are not with you physically they will live in your heart forever. Stay strong 💪

@@loamerlukas Thank you so much I really appreciate that! I’m doing much better. I honestly don’t believe that time heals, because it doesn’t feel any easier… it sometimes feels like the loss has gotten worse. But you learn to cope. Again, thank you son much!

@@shoegame1201 I just read it on Wikipedia (before I read this): esophagus cancer in September of 1982, when Billie was 10. I also read somewhere else (thought it was wiki but I couldn’t find it again as I wanted to quote it) that as a child, following his father’s death, his mom would try to get him to come out of his room, to which he’d respond, “Wake me up when September ends.” 39 years gone so fast…
