When i saw them live and there was a box next to the hammond that had a horn speaker that spun around inside the cabinet, on a speaker stack, always wondered what it did, sound wise, i was hypnotized watching sound come out of it though. Lol

@@michaelmaher4328That’s called a Leslie speaker and is responsible for that swirling sound and you could control the speed of the spin with a pedal. As a keyboard player, I always wanted one but they take up a lot of space. I knew a guy I could borrow one from, but it was a BEAR to move. I think I only brought it to a gig once.

@@mikestewart7338 I had this on a mix tape back in the day. It was wedged in between Creeping Death from Metallica and another song I just can't remember right now, and probably never will lol. I was in a really decent cover band playing club gigs for many years. As a drummer, this was always one of my favorite songs to cover. Mostly for the reaction it would get from patrons in the clubs. No one else that I was aware of was doing this in 2010s. We always did this in our first set. You could be having a lame night with a so-so crowd & as SOON as the keys & bass would open this up ...heads would immediately turn (even before the first cymbal splash) & a moment later the dance floor was filling. So much fun. Great band, great song. "Ride Captain Ride" by Blues Image was another incredibly memorable song like this. People would just freak when we did that, too. I'm sorry, but I'm not sorry ....music was just simply better "back then". It just ...was. Played by humans, no auto-tune, no click-tracks...just raw talent & great vibes!

9 out of 10 covers are just criminal and unnecessary. They might be a bit more tolerable if the bands put their own fingerprints on the songs but to just do a very similar, copy of the original is just Ugghhh

When I was a kid, I would pretend to be asleep so I could stay up long enough to sneak into the TV room and catch these performances on that show. My mom was cool because sometimes she would catch me and instead of sending me back to bed, she would watch it with me and sometimes dance to the music. She passed away 25 years ago and now I’m 62. So glad these are performances are assessable to us. Brings back memories of happier times. Miss you mom, love to you from me.

At a time when audiences were open to all kinds of music, Sugarloaf landed this mic-drop hit. "Green Eyed Lady" had all kinds of influences...funk, jazz, rock, layered over a cooler than hell groove tighter than a clam's keister. In this live (*yep, bands actually played and sang in those days) version from The Midnight Special TV show, Corbetta and the band are absolutely on fire. They make it look easy, and that's the point. Corbetta's Hammond solo here is taken to another level, even beyond the recorded version. Astonishing!

Classic. They don’t write songs like this anymore. And yes I knew a green eyed lady who had a lot of passion.

Green Eyed Lady-1970 Aw, the 60s are now officially over. In steps 1970 the beginning of disco, funk, R&B soul, jazz fusion, glam & punk. This decade will change music forever.

We worked with Jerry Corbetta for a couple of weeks back in the day. He produced some demo's for us, and we were so fortunate to get to know him and share some quality time. RIP Jerry

I played in a band back in that day, and our practice garage was right up the street from where Jerry lived. He stopped in and jammed with us a couple times…KILLER. We had a VERY good keyboardist, but….😊 I cannot tell if that’s Bob Weber on guitar. Can anyone help me?

They had a hit, and toured a bit, with this song he said he couldn't use, and got to perform it on The Midnight Special! I got to see Jerry live in the 90s with the Classic Rock All-Stars tour, and he was still this tight. Phenomenal keyboard player.

When I was much younger, I'd see pictures of rock acts from back in the day, and wondered why they all used the same lettering for their names behind the stage. It wasn't until KZbin came along and I started seeing these Midnight Special clips that I figured it out :D

Very talented musicians playing a great tune live! Heh '70s saw an explosion of highly talented rock bands whose members came up through the system and achieved success by working hard, putting in the hours, and honing their craft. Sugarloaf exemplifies what's great about '70s classic rock 'n roll music. BTW, I'm biassed as hell cause this is my generation and I'm proud to have been there. Rock On!

One of my favorites songs from the 70s - I can remember hearing this on AM radio back in the day. I'm not usually a big fan of live performances because they often don't sound much like the studio song. But THIS performance - outstanding. The musicianship in this is excellent, and it sounds almost like the album.

Another example of the superior musicianship of players in the 70's. Like YES, ELP, Genesis, Chicago, Blood-Sweat &Tears, R&B bands, Led Zeppelin, Frampton, Boston, all the jazz & fusion bands and so many more. They were all playing their a$$es off. Glad I got to see and be a small part of those years. So much fun but you had to be good to work.

Maybe the greatest organ solo I've ever heard in Rock. This performance is amazing and each one of those guys a master at his craft. That the lead singer was also the keyboard player just blew our minds in this room tonight. The really difficult instrumental parts were played just as well if not with even more creativity than the album.
