This is really good. You sure have improved since your first videos. Be careful not to strech the same melody over and over again playing it several times in a row. That is why I really like that you add your own guitar solo in the middle. Variation is good. It is still better to play short and exiting than long and boring, but you do it perfect though. Keep rocking!

Badass dude. Liked how you transitioned the parts with an angelic choral part in the middle, for me it gave a real harmonious 'free spirit' feel to it that captures Sonic games. Personally, what's why I have such a draw to your music is because it combines my two favorite music types, electric guitars and ethereal chanting - somehow you're stuff always has that and for me, that's my sound - can't do any better. Only criticism I felt like was in the solo at 2:32-33, it should have 'capped' and by that I mean, at that moment, transitioned with a note similar to the one at 2:48, and into the part at 2:36 rather than continued to go one more step lower with the last high E notes. That, or continued with the last high E notes, pulled off with a note similar to the one at 2:48 and into the part at 2:36.

Andrew Liddell In all seriousness, I see what you mean about the solo. I have a bad habit of dragging things like that out. Your first suggestion would actually work quite well, although i'd have to come come up with 6 more seconds of solo to fill the empty gap and put it towards the end. But I think it would sound good.
@AugustLeafFilms10 жыл бұрын
I'm sure you wouldn't have a problem coming up with something fitting given all the well-made stuff you've hammered out already. Wouldn't actively worry so much about dragging things out, usually I find artists cut their solos/materials too short when it gets to the good parts -- plus your harmonies and rifts all tie together and reinforce each really well so whatever 'excess' might be in there tends not to take away from the piece, and in fact, in songs like your Gerudo Valley (acoustic), compliments it very well. Looking forward to the next issue, All the best dude :)

Topic of discussion seems to be the angelic sounds at 1:31. Myself, I find it is an interesting take, and giving music your own twist is part of the greatness of this, but I personally think something a bit more contrasting that you could hear the difference in notes with more would have been better. Maybe having less sustain or something, IDK. Love your solos though! And as a less mentioned thing, I like how your lead seem to be at a higher octave than other covers of this I've heard. Maybe it's just me...
@TheOnlyDeerAlive10 жыл бұрын
I noticed that as well. Some GHZ cover's leads are an octave lower than what I did. Even though the original is an octave higher than that, but you can't really reach that with a guitar unless you used an octave peddle or something. I did use a lot sustain for the choir and I probably should've cut back on that. But whateva

TheOnlyDeerAlive After reading my comment, it looks like I focused on my critique and didn't say enough, I love the entire thing! I'll offer little criticisms, but you are still one of my inspirations to learn guitar!

Shadow Link Haha not at all. I really appreciate the feedback. I'm glad you like it, man!
@HugoJunstrand10 жыл бұрын
It's great as always, but I'm going to be honest here, I don't quite think the angelic choir fits for this kind of tune, or more specifically the part at 1:31. The solo afterwards was really good, though.
@TheOnlyDeerAlive10 жыл бұрын
Thanks, man. I appreciate the honesty. What do you think I should've done? Put synths in instead of the choir? or should I have just taken out that part completely
@HugoJunstrand10 жыл бұрын
TheOnlyDeerAlive I think that really is dependent on what you have to work with based on what you can find, like what sort of instruments does your synth have? The most efficient, or atleast the most basic, instrument I usually go is with piano most of the time, but I think with Sonic maybe some sort of tropical element put into it like say brass or marimbas or any of the likes. Just some ideas to mess around with.
@TheOnlyDeerAlive10 жыл бұрын
Toxodentrail I appreciate it, man. My keyboard does have a lot of different settings and sounds, but i'm just a sucker for the choir haha. I definitely over use it and I need to explore some more
@HugoJunstrand10 жыл бұрын
Guilty of the same here, man. Even I exploit the piano like crazy in almost every single piece ^^

High five! We both posted a Sonic cover on Feb 1st! :) Your solos are always the best man. I see that you're a Rush fan. 2:06 to 2:10 is totally a YYZ reference. Right? It sounds like the ending of the guitar solo in that song. Super tasty tapping sections and great harmonics as always. Cheers bro. :)
