If you use the normal knipex pliers enough, the red textured grip wears smooth. All of mine are damn near smooth at this point.

The knipex plier wrenches and a whole lot of other knipex plier tools come with the smooth handles. The textured handles are definitely better for grip when wet, dirty or greasy and for cushioning but the smooth ones are great too. Easier to clean also.

I have the Reca green knipex corbra and plier wrench they are also smooth rubber. I like how easy they are to clean and in gloved hands they feel very similar to the original red ones.

Those grips are the matco grips for the snap ring pliers I have. They clean up really easy compared to knipex grips.

As a Channellock guy who's used the smooth handles, I would much rather have these. The textured grips feel nice but smooth cleans easier, in the end I don't really care that much one way or the other but as a Channellock guy the smooth is just what I'm used to.

The smooth handles are much easier to clean, but I do prefer the thicker ones. Also, the last digits in the Knipex tool code is the handle type.

No that’s the length, 87 01 250 the 01 is a basic dipped handle, 87 is the type of tool in this case a cobra, 250 is the total length of the tool

My cobra and alligator pliers have the textured grip but my pliers wrench ones have that smooth grip. Once I start working I don’t really notice any difference honestly

Matco is the only place you can get them in the US. You can order them from overseas from RECA but you will have to pay for international shipping. Knipex had a deal with RECA that goes back many years and other than Matco (which you will pay dearly for them) you can’t get them here.

Smooth is slick with oil and grease period. That’s why I prefer the Cobra texture grips. If you struggle with getting them clean try tub o towels. They will look good as new.

They make toolboxes. That’s technically all they make themselves. They do have exclusives on tools that are only sold through them and you can’t get from the OEM. Ratchets are a prime example, impacts are another.

Knipex has always made the smooth rubbery handles & the textured grippy handles. The slick handles are made more for the automotive industry as they’re supposed to be more chemical/oil resistant than the grippy handles. But yea those aren’t new.
