@Miles Goodison-Fearon I think the reason is that they want to focus on John. It may be for the sake of pandering to those of us who grew up watching Justice League and JLU, or maybe even just for diversity, but they clearly want to focus on John as the team's resident lantern. They might even be setting up a love-triangle between him, Mari and Shayera just like in JLU, which would make sense seeing how they included all three in this movie.

Also, Oliver had to make a choice between saving John's life or letting Hal kill everyone in the galaxy. It doesn't surprise me he went for the 1st option. As to his reaction, ppl react differently to this kind of stuff. You can't really judge him like that for it.

Just watched the movie. It was starting off great but overall it was ok. Definitely not gonna watch it again like man of tomorrow or long Halloween. I was kinda expecting hawkgirl to join the JL and reunite the old JL members from the 2001 show🥲. I didn’t like how Hal was the villain kinda saw it coming. Should’ve just let him stay dead firstly.

Remember when Parallax Hal Jordan was an actual threat? Dude should have survived this film and returned in a sequel as the main bad guy against all the corps and the justice league or something and by the end parallax would’ve left Hal Jordan and he wouldn’t had to have died.

Personally, I don't mind Hal becoming evil and dying. He tends to take too much of the spotlight away from all the other green lanterns. HOWEVER, how they did it doesn't make too much sense. He got infected and brainwash yet he doesn't get cleaned at the end. He and Sinestro only had a few yellow lanterns, yet they were able to destroy Oa. If you don't know the comics, you can ignore Hal becoming evil as fine. But if you are familiar with the comics, Hal had a reason/motivation for going rogue. There's too many plot holes

To me it feels like everything is just way bad executed. All the characters feel missmanaged and underused. John feels way too nice when compared to his previous incarnations. Shayera is the oposite and feels cartoonishly dumb (i know this is an animation but still breaks the immersion on how misshandled she is). Ollie is too serious and uninteresting. The dialogue is peak cringe at times and (SPOILERS AHEAD) Emerald Twilight and New Dawn get completely butchered in this telling. I feel like they just URGE to get the GLCorps destroyed rather than actively setting them up as a power to be reckoned with. Sinestro and Hal both get their characters on the most simplistic of ways - even when they are some of the most fleshed out and interesting characters in the comics. To top it all off, the Justice League is a thing in this universe allready and it's formation happenend OFFSCREEN? I know it happened in Young Justice but the League is the background of that series, and not the main connecting plot.

Here’s the big problem I have, in order to make the audience care about the Parallax storyline and Hal’s death you have to first set up Hal Jordan and make the audience attached to him so that when it’s revealed who the villain is it’s emotional. And you have to set up the Green Arrow Green Lantern relationship to make his death even more emotional. If you don’t set it up then no one really cares. This movie feels like something that should happen in the third part of a trilogy start off with a movie about Hal and Ollie then a movie about Hal and John and then this movie.

Great movie that nods to the comics. *spoiler* It's emerald twilight and the Rann/Thanager War. While I agree characters could have been fleshed out more, I felt the characters completely fit the general universe DC is creating. I think itnis a fine addition when you consider what DC is going for. Also, Green Arrow shines because they're setting up the classic Green Lantern/Green Arrow teamups!

I really liked this movie! I'm not familiar with John's comic book origin, because I'm mostly a Wonder Woman reader lol, but I like what they've done with him here. It was great to see him overcome his trauma, learn to use the GL ring and kick butts. His interactions with Oliver and Shayera were also pretty fun!

Green Lantern has some really underrated and interesting villains, and yet most are wasted or forgotten in this film, as well as most GL media. I think Green Lantern has the potential to tell a massive space opera, with compelling and fascinating characters surrounding a saga of stories, as GL is literally DC's Star Wars and could have the potential for something incredible if given a chance with people who truly love this character and their mytho's.

Spoiler Warning** I'm so confused how this works now, like they must have skipped like 5-10 years or something. Wonder woman is on earth 1 now, Hal has become the greatest green lantern of all time without having even been mentioned by other heroes yet in previous films. They spent the first 4 movies slowly building up each hero only to just skip the bulk of their early careers. I mean the movie was fine I guess but I'm just super confused over what they're doing with the universe, because when we see batman, superman and flash again this will be years after we last saw them so all the development and conflicts they were dealing with will all be probably resolved or just over with in some way. I'm not hugely against the fact that justice league has formed it's more the time jump that bugs me.

The Tomorrowverse so far has been a decent follow-up to the New 52 universe. However this is definitely the first bad movie in this universe! Not only it is adapting an already divisive story but it somehow made it even worse by sucking out every remorse we might have felt about Hal Jordan, while also making John Stewart unlikable! Speaking of Hal, I never thought I'd see the day, but I have to be honest here, Nolan North is really bad in the role! He is just using his generic Colonel Sawyer voice from Cod Zombies and its just such an uninterested performance for such an important story! Honestly this movie felt like the old days where I didn't care at all about the Green Lanterns. No matter how many they introduce, the ones people will always love are only Hal Jordan and John Stewart! Although I will say out of all the new ones Jessica cruz has the most potential to become more interesting if she has a decent adaptation.

Did not like this John Stewart. The justice league animated series depiction was way better. Also movie made no sense. They are all against killing and sinestro and Hal destroying evil and such to make the universe a better place by killing lives, when John says sometimes you have to do things you'll regret as long as it's done for the right reasons. I'm paraphrasing here but by that sentiment Hal can be justified for his actions and other villains for the greater good like Thanos in infinity war. This was really bad writing. Man have the animated films fall off:/

So, I watched this film yesterday and I definitely feel like, compared to the rest of the films in this new universe (Man of Tomorrow, The Long Halloween, Justice Society) it is surprisingly weak and is disappointing, especially as a Green Lantern fan. I think my first issue was the cast. As a fan, Nolan North as Hal Jordan is a very odd choice. I don’t feel like he brought anything to Hal’s character. It didn’t feel like there’s any nuance in his performance, which is disappointing because he’s a top-flight VA. Also, I couldn’t stop hearing Superboy/Superman. I would have love to have seen what Nathan Fillion would have done with such a cool twist on Hal’s character. Worst of all, Aldis Hodge’s John Stewart feels super bland. This John Stewart just sounds (and reacts) like a dude. Super monotone. On the flip side, Phil Lamar’s John Stewart is a masterclass. It would have been great if he was brought back. Overall, it’s definitely lacking in some key areas like the design (Sinestro’s uniform and the GL ship that doesn’t look a GL ship at all) and the score (with no recognisable or memorable themes). I liked the story. The supporting characters were great. The sound design was good (though I am a huge fanboy for the lantern effects from First Flight, Emerald Knights, JL:Doom, etc). The atmosphere felt right and I liked that DC wasn’t afraid to take some bold steps in terms of the story.
