I find it strange that the character of Green Lantern is blamed and shunned by DC for the movie being bad and not the people that wrote such a boring movie. Any hero is susceptible to being put in an awful movie, but that doesn’t mean they can’t star in an excellent one. It’s up to the writers.

Considering that DC replaced Martian Manhunter with Cyborg as a founding member of the justice league during the New52 and Rebirth era, and not only that but is always being pushed to the side, it’s not surprising. Which is ashamed because if you read some of the pre New52 era of the justice league books, specifically the 90s run, he was stated to be the heart of the team.

@@ID0XX I think it has to do with how DC doesn’t push him towards an audience compared to Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, The Flash, Green Lantern, Aquaman, and even Green Arrow. Which does sucks because he is an interesting character there are so many things you can do with him. I’m surprised we never got a team up with him and characters like Superman or Batman, with him also being the last survivor of his home planet and a detective. As for Cyborg, I agree. I never saw him being with the JL. Not saying he can’t be a member of the team but a founding member doesn’t work with his character, bc outside of a power boost, he doesn’t have the same relationship and development with the league compared to the titans. Vic’s only real friendship he had with the league was with Shazam. Whereas, his relationship with Batman, Barry Allen, Superman, Wonder Woman, the Green Lanterns (Hal, John, Simon, and Jessica), and Aquaman were more like a rookie/young coworker being with a bunch of older coworkers. But his relationship with Beast Boy, Starfire, Nightwing, Donna Troy, Raven, Wally West, Jericho, Arsenal, and Tempest actually helped make him a great character bc their friendship to the point where he’s also shown as the heart of the team. Even the younger generations how would become a member of the teen titans look up to him because of those reasons.

100% agree with this video. Geoff Johns was a big proponent of GL popularity. Of course through his run but it also spawned several spin-off books and kept the comic franchise going strong long after he stopped writing GL but once he left DC’s editorial offices, they really downplayed his mythology through the Morrison run and then especially the thorne series which spat in the face of it. With Jeremy Adams taking over, GL has become strong again in comics but not as strong as under Johns’ control.

Dex-Starr is one of the absolute most tragic pieces of Lantern lore I can think of but definitely love the little guy and agree. The Lantern stuff has been some of the most interesting pieces of DC's world for many decades.

Hal Jordan my second favorite, but I wish there was more content for the Lanterns themselves. Could you imagine a Green Lantern base video game? That would be a dream, and skills would have to be training to make good constructs.

Yes! 100%. I remember when you did your “no one know what to do with Superman” video and I said the same thing. I read the Johns GL run a few months back and I want to read the other GL Corps books that ran along side (I read johns and some tie-ins and that was it). GL is so awesome and I wish DC would push these characters more in the mainstream media. Hopefully that Lanterns show will be good and make people that don’t know them, like them.

Which I do like the idea on how DC had tried to set up a future state for them where Kyle ends up becoming the new White Lantern and he assembles the White Lantern Corps while Jessica Cruz ends up embracing the power of the Yellow Lantern.

I think its clear WB is scared to release anything that might not be an automatic box office hit. Their financial situation has put them in that spot. They are a bit tone deaf and doesn't notice when people want something. For example CW teased the idea of John Diggle becoming a Green Lantern, and for the first time in a long time...people were excited about something related to CW. They cancelled that plan. Nobody gets hype for anything CW and the one thing people wanted, they cancelled. WB are gun shy, they don't wanna do anything with the character that could be a failure. Especially since he would be a character where they'd be spend a lot on CGI.

I am always very happy to see someone on youtube spreading awareness and some love towards the Green Lantern IP. In my opinion, it is the franchise in all of entertainment that has been the most disrespected and has a large disparity between where he should rank versus where he stands with the general public. Geoff Johns run, Robert Venditti's run, the 2012 animated series, Emerald Knights, the blueprint is there for a great film adaptation, but for some reason studios and writers continue to use him as a throwaway character.

I love Green Lantern. Ever since the movie he has been cut out. Even in my local comic shop there are barely any comics with Green Lantern. I want to collect the Geoff Johns Green Lantern stuff because Hal is my favourite Green Lantern. I love Carol Ferris and Atrocitus. I wish we would get a really good Green Lantern adaptation because this character is really cool and he means a lot to me. Just because you make one bad movie doesn’t mean the whole character should be ignored. Batman and Robin came out but guess what we got Batman Begins and the Arkham Games which revitalised the character of Batman. The same should happen for Green Lantern. He has so much potential. He is a whole corner of the Dc universe. I also want to see Hal’s friendship with Barry be explored and his role as a leader along with his relationship with Carol. I hope James Gunn makes a great Green Lantern show. I don’t think he should stray away from the cosmic elements of the character though.

Something you didn't mention was Hal in the Justice League animated movie universe, In JL War, they had a nice set up pairing off didn't heroes with one another to form interesting dynamics planting seeds to expand on in future projects, BUT they didn't. It was real interesting to since they paired Green Lantern with their cash cow Batman, and that Batman ironically latched onto Green Lantern while Hal still can't stand Bruce but begrudgingly respects him in that movie. It was perfect set up for a buddy cop movie, possibly in space. Could've really brought some attention onto Green Lantern and the DC's cosmic side.

Absolute great video. Hal and John have been my favorite lanterns for long a Di fan remember. And Geoff Johns run is one of the greatest stories in comics history I firmly believe. A dynamic I more so enjoy is Hal having more space adventures and John being with the JL. I know people enjoy Guy, Kyle, Jessica, and Simon. But it’s just too much. I know they tried to explain why earth had “so many” lanterns a while back but it seemed like a cop out. They should really just focus on branding Hal and John and other corps.

You can have several lanterns but have them each have a different adventure. Or be a different branches of the corps. Like does the corp have an actual military structure to it with rankings and field stations. John steward could lead a branch that focuses on reconstruction, repairing planets and being a peace corp. Guy Garner could be the marine or army of the corp. Something that still builds the universe.

could u talk about wonder woman? shes such a convoluted character with numerous iterations, and from my perspective she lacks core themes/charcteristics. i can't learn anything about her outside of youtube videos and movies, maybe some shows, but i get the feeling that her core character is often assassinated the same way supermans character is whenever he's on a movie, because i can't find anything interesting about her other than that she's essentially a war machine
