as a ex para, and in the big picture of things does it really matter what regiment we served in, I know we all have regimental pride, but at the end of the day WE ALL SERVED Queen and Country,whether you was in the mail room or in SF we was all small cogs in a very very big wheel, and without all the cogs the wheel simply does not turn

Always uplifting. Always takes me back to being awarded my maroon lid. No one can ever take that away from me. The values instilled will live with me and every paratrooper once that lid was handed over.

RAF here, as was my father. He served alongside the Paras in Aden, being a fitter on the Beverley. A family member was also ex Para and a big influence on my father. I took the Queen's shilling in dark blue, but I too have a very soft spot for the Paras and have a number of friends who did their bit on Mount Longdon. So why did neither myself or may father not try to join the Paras? - who knows, but great respect we both have for the maroon machine.

It is, my friend. When the firsts Belgian paratrooper units were formed in the UK, (what we could call a part of the "Free Belgian Forces"), the Belgian soldiers of those units were issued (mostly) British and (a part of) US equipment - and decided to modify the UK paratrooper beret insignia, to add yet another sign to make sure they were identified as Belgians, and not as British, by their allies. A way to say "Hey, people ! Some Belgians are still up, willing to fight and fighting hard ! "
@johnsalt11576 жыл бұрын
"La marche des parachutistes Belges" is the regimental quick march of the Special Air Service, so the Belgians must have been doing something right.

@Harkenish Have some respect for the Marines. Marines are one of the best fighting forces in the world. The Battle of Belleau Wood was the bloodiest battle, and thanks to the Marines, they were able to push back the German army from a certain defeat. I'll give you guys respect. Alright lads, do I need to have served time with an infantry regiment before going Para, or can I enlist, do basic infantry and then go straight to P Coy? As honestly, all I want is to be a Para and I'd rather not serve with a regular unit if there was only a slim chance of ending up as a Para. Also, not taking it for granted I'd get in if it sounds like that.

I have to say, the Para's and Marines are completely different. Both are superb, but can be up their own arses a lot. Overall I would say the Para's are better, only due to the fact that they are more easily moved around, as planes are faster than boats, not due to them being better trained, or being better soldiers.

@fonsy85 ... LOL? ... What is marines 1.5 mile rune time .. same as any other regiment like 12 minutes or something. Paras 1.5 mile time is 9.18 minutes + They have to do PRAC which consists of semi brutal tests like they will do in P-Company . Marines do 30 mile run in 8 hours, Paras do 20 miles in 4 hours. Also, 1st Battalion of Parachute Regiment is now the Special Forces Support Group and 60% of all SAS are ex-paras.

@9parasqn A women was in the MARINES, many many years ago, long before the commando's were formed, or even the Royal Marines. Full respect to para's by the way. The thing about 3 commando brigade, unlike 16th air assault (where anyone can join) everyone one is first and formost commando trained, so if the shit does it the fan a chef can put up as good as a fight as a general duties royal marine. Also about 20% of the corps are parachute trained now too. Remeber the 'sex change para'?
