I tell people who don't think they have a green thumb to start with green onions. I get loads of them from the restaurant I work at. Here in the PacNW, you can't kill them. They survive drought, frost, downpours, you name it! I've left them in my trunk in a brown bag before and they've grown 8 inches, but they are white from no sunlight. It's great to see someone excited that they grew something!!

Thanks for watching and commenting. I have a few plants in a small pot. And they grow nearly year round. It’s a great fresh addition to many dishes. In south Louisiana, green onions are a staple in cooking. At least for me.

Thank you for this explanation! A lot of people grow them but no one explains how. They’re a staple at our house here in North Louisiana and I’m tired of buying them. Again, thanks!

Thanks for watching and commenting. They freeze so well and grow so easily. So we use them on every meal in South Louisiana. Happy Growing

I personally don’t. But you definitely can. Thanks for watching. Commenting. And asking.

Yes , you clean the onions , take one layer of the skin off the onion. Rinse. Then cut the onion across. Then you can eat it on salads , eat as is . We would have at lunch with tomatoes , cucumbers and eat the onion whole or as far as you want the green.

Great video! What kind of vacuum sealer do you use that works with the ziplock bags? I am looking to get one that works with all types of bags so I will actuslly use it. Thanks! 😃

@@RockBottomRebootIRL I use a food saver brand - game saver silver edition. Been having it for years. So far it has always worked well. And the mason jar sealing attachments as well. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching and commenting.

I just leave them in the ground and cut off the green part that I need for a meal. They will regrow prolifically. I live in zone 7 and can harvest all them year round. And, for anyone that doesn't know you plant the bottom 2 inches or so from store bought ones and they will regrow too. You can plant several right next to each other, they like being close together.

Thanks for watching and commenting. I can almost grow them year round in 9a in a container. Which allows me to alter the amount of sunlight they get and help prevent them from heat scald. But every fall they grow great and freeze or dehydrate so well. So they are always on hand. Happy Growing

What is the name of those onions do they self multiply when they grow
@A.L.B.O.E.SouthernHomestead Жыл бұрын
We call them green onions. But they are also called bunching onions. And yes. They self multiply. Each bunch you see in the video started as one single bulb. And ended as 13 or more individual bulbs. Thanks for watching and commenting.

what do you do to control fire ants in your garden?
@A.L.B.O.E.SouthernHomestead Жыл бұрын
I use corn meal purchased from the grocery store. Sprinkle it on top. They bring it in the mound. They eat it and are unable to digest it. And it eliminates them. I don’t like using any poisons near food I’m planning to eat. And because I don’t want my dog getting to any of it. Hope that helps you. Thanks for watching and commenting

Why are you throwing away all of that stuff in the middle? Eat that. Whole onion is great, not just the green tops
@A.L.B.O.E.SouthernHomestead8 ай бұрын
You are very right. Every part is edible. For these, I was simply cutting off the green ends for slicing and freezing and the shortening the bulbs for future plant starts. Thanks for watching and commenting
