Green onion is an easy plant to grow. You can grow it from seeds or you can grow it from the roots of the green onions. This video shows how you can plant the bottom part of green onions that you normally throw away and get an evergreen supply.

I greatly appreciate your posts for their thoroughness and clarity of instruction. I cook a good deal of Mexican and Northern Indian dishes, so I am in constant need of fresh herbs, which I prefer to grow rather than buy. Since following your advice, my garden's productivity has been significantly improved, and I no longer find myself short of cilantro or green onion. Thank you!

Thabk you! This was so helpful! I have been keeping my green onions in water and after a while they get thin and soggy. I know very little about planting and growing things, so I appreciated that you showed how you cut it. Normally, I don't cut that much of the plant. I am going to out them in soil and start cutting off more.

Thank you for this video it was very informative! I am completely new to gardening and have never actually grown anything but hoping to start soon! I have a few questions... - What is your preferred soil for green onions? - What exactly are compost and perlite lol? - Am I right in assuming that the green onion bulbs will grow into big white onions? If that is the case do you still keep them in the original planter or do you replant them in a bigger one? Do you keep using those onions as green onions or are they solely big white onions now?

I have grown spring onions the same way and have limited their sun exposure pretty much the same way as you did. Make sure your pot/container has holes drilled in the bottom for drainage. Leaves turning yellow is a sign of the soil being deficient in nutrients. Or not good drainage, water logged soil. Onions, like other veggies... love full sun.
