i see by photos of the bike you shorten the front forks and the sit bar did you weld it to the plate. Just to let you know i am doing this bike for myself not for resell. I also know this is a business to you and probably not like answering alot of ?. But if I am going to build this bike who better to ask question but the person who build it in the first place. Like you said that was one of your favorites well i have look at alot of bike on the internet and that one is my favorite that's why i have started this build thanks again for what ever help you can give

Thanks Mark. I have an 03 Harley frame Im thinking of making a trike out of on the cheap to pull my 57 xla chopper with. I like the displacement of the Honda for highway extended travel speeds.

With used ones, they're built very well. Just, if you go to pick one up, check your charging system. Take a pocket multimeter. Running should be anywhere from 13.5 to 13.9. Revving should be at least another volt added. Also, starter clutches can get magnetized and the starter will zing. All of the aforementioned takes place in a protruding housing on the left rear of the motor. Parts aren't that expensive, but the whole process is labor intense, because the motor would have to be removed.

Thats even cooler i assume like a car the advancement is vacuum or mechanical? What year bike? I know where 3 or 4 are here in Savannah, Ga. Wouldnt mind doing a version of bobber on one
@coolmonkeymc8268
@coolmonkeymc8268 6 жыл бұрын
No mechanical advance in the GL1000. The GL1100 had gone to CDI and had a mechanical advance in the back of the motor that worked off a vacuum from the #3 carb. Then, the GL1200s, the pick-ups were in the front of the motor, located on the crank pulley, and the igniter had a vacuum running to the #2 carb.

I absolutely love this bike build. And that engine paint, WOW!! Looks like it is dripping wet. In another video you said you used High Temp Urethane, what specific product is that? I'd love to try it myself. And why did you choose HTU vs. High Temperature Enamel? Thank you!
@jdc2597

Thank you for taking the time to message us. I wish I could tell you more on the qualities of the paint, but that was on the close-out shelf from the paint supply that I get my products from, so I don't remember any particulars. But, as far as the color, personally, I think the Goldwing motor is the only one that you can get away with using the color wheel. For some reason, any other motor would look gimmicky. Maybe it's the flat 4 design. You probably have a good point on your choice of product. As I said, it was on the clearance table, so I tried it.

Why did you choose to go with the knobby tires? Is this bike capable of off road, or just dirt road type riding? Was it just a style choice? What is the final weight on the bike? I have a (New to me) 1978 GW full dresser that I am going through right now before I take it on the road... it's a heavy bike - probably too heavy for gravel or loose dirt roads. Nice bike, BTW.

Thank you for the message. Anything I do is just to pay the bills. . . takin' what they're givin' because I'm workin' for a livin'. I suppose you could try to get a Goldwing to go offroad. This particular bike weighed in in it's current state, at 435 lbs. That's probably around what some of those Dakkar or Big V-Strom enduros weigh, but there's a heck of a lot more tech going on. As I said, I have to make style changes to sell the bike. Whatever you do, if you can keep the bike performing as close to stock when finished, I call that a victory. Most guys, after done chopping up their bikes, live with the results, but they know it was probably a better bike before they started.
@barking.dog.productions1777
@barking.dog.productions1777 5 жыл бұрын
Mark Sosa - Thanks for the speedy reply. So, more of a styling choice, but it probably does help with dirt road performance especially with the weight reduction. Does that about sum it up if I understand your reply? BTW, I think that it was a great choice along with all of the other mods that you made. :) The only changes that I would personally make to the design is a small rear fender to keep water and dirt from the rear tire off of the riders back, and a removable rear seat assembly for two-up traveling....
