My green spotted puffer fish Chomper had his 16th birthday this summer!

My very first fish was a green spotted puffer named Squishy.💚 It was a very steep learning curve. Being young and naive, I didn’t do my research beforehand. All I saw was the cutest little fish I’d ever seen, and I fell in love with her instantly. I had no idea what I was getting myself into. I made a lot of mistakes, but I learned A LOT and became a better fish keeper. Now, being a single mom of a young boy, I don’t have the time or energy to provide adequate care. Some day I will have another. I’ll always have a soft part in my heart for green spotted puffers! 💚🐡RIP SQUISHY🐡💚

I love my figure of 8 puffer fish hes called houdini. I got him a couple of months ago and ive been keeping fish for about 20 years nearly and hes definitely one of my favourite fish ive kept so much character. I added some bumblebee gobies to his tank and i havent seen them since 😢

❤ them! Your info is exactly accurate and have kept them (though not currently) since the early 90s. And yes very low salinity can be achieved if the water is hard, our Toronto tap water is 7.5ph with lots of calcium and magnesium, I use 1 tablespoon of salt per 10 gal. And yes Java fern and seagrass work well at that salinity. Some dead coral added is right on the mark too, I also raised Florida ghost shrimp in the tank prior and they can hide in the rocks and coral and reproduce and the puffers love eating them.

Great vid I've kept x2 f8 now for 3 years and your information spot on. They have killed every fish that's been in with them. You should do a vid on how to breed snails as I can get them to lay eggs and never get them to grow big enough to feed to My puffers.

Thank you! I’ve also not had the best luck breeding snails, it just takes way too long like you say for them grow! I used buy a big bag of them online and kept them in with my Betta but they never developed quick enough, so I’d have to buy more 😅 I think you’d need a massive plastic tub to breed them 😂

Can you have 2 figure 8’s or should you keep an odd number?

my mom was gifted a baby green puffer, from an aquatistical friend of hers, who still believes they can thrive in fresh water .. and then bought 3 more, after picking up the misinformation that they are group animals, with playful interactions. a 200L (>50gal) brackish water tank is already cycled for them. wish her luck, and please help prepare her for the worst! (..before they shred each other to bits, once puberty hits)

How are they doing?

LIKED!!... This is one of those videos, hopefully prevents some of those IMPULSE buys... If you have lots of tanks and space to experiment, then Okay... But, look at ALL of KZbin... How many of these fish are healthy and of adult size?? Very few. 😟🤔 I have a green spotted and figure eight juvenile, living together for now... In a 55 gallon at low salinity with plants... But, this will not last.

If taken care of, these fish will live for over a decade

55g if fine they will become friends, they only fight if stressed and under fed.
