The signals have been changed for a 15mph bike timing. The crazy thing is this actually makes everyone on the road flow smoother and much calmer, especially when pared with congestion pricing to even out the flow. Let's GO

i recently visited eugene, oregon. they have these big fancy new bikeways that are unuseable because, as a cyclist, they hit you with a red light. every. single. block.

Just go through them, youre on a bike

@@Ch62424 Terrible advice. Cyclists are subject to the same rules of the road as motorists and blowing through red lights is a great way to (1) put yourself if unnecessary danger and (2) give cyclists a bad reputation for acting like idiots on the road.

They want to fix it but the city doesn't want to give the funding to pay an engineer to time the lights 🤦♂️

It is insane that you made it all the way through even with cars and other riders slowing you down here and there. Probably the most entertaining video you've posted so far ahaha

What was it like before the retiming? Pretty amazing save for the 4 cars that cut you off and the construction disaster near the end
@Ch624249 күн бұрын
You could still hit 20 greens if you hustled, but they were timed for cars, so you really had to be on your horse

So cool! And as someone whose city is full of 10-15% hills I cannot get over how flat this is!

You passed tons of traffic during your journey! Plus it seemed like there were many lights green for you but red for cars. This will make people realize that cars are very time consuming in the city. And at the end of their journey they will have to find and pay for parking. Pedal on!!
@olliek67096 күн бұрын
i reckon its cause it takes more time for the cars stopped at the red to start moving again, which clogs up the traffic behind them trying to ride the green wave. On a bike this is never an issue though cause theres no "bumper to bumper" bike traffic blocking you when the light turns green
@Pshady6 күн бұрын
I used to live in a French city (Aix) where the green light wave was about 60kph and the limit was 50kph.

In ogden utah, they added some really nice bike lanes on one street, however the lights will never go green for a cyclist unless a car shows up in the same direction. Other wise it will always be red.

It does also give them to cars which makes it unsafe unless they have a turn lane and turn arrow.

With the bumpouts cars are forced to make their turns at a sharper angle. That simultaneously slows them down and puts cyclists in the field of view of the driver without needing to rely on mirrors to check their blindspot. That's the theory at least, it would be better if the bumpouts had curbs to prevent cars from cutting over them.
@Servergmr9 күн бұрын
@@LimitedWard Well, some cars forced the bicyclists to either swerve around them or to wait, like that one car where he had to actually use his brakes.
@cmmartti7 күн бұрын
@Servergmr Yes some car drivers will always force their way in, but in every instance in the video they _saw the cyclists_ and adjusted their speed so no one was hit. It goes both ways, too: the cyclists saw a car forcing turning and were able to brake. Both of which are enabled by daylighting and tighter turn radii.
