Maybe you should have just bought the hitch package instead and used that handy little Karavan trailer. But I'm sure that would come with it's own obstacles. I've been disappointed with Made in USA products more than once. You win some, you lose some. But in the end you did support our economy and didn't support communism. So that's a win.
@TheWoodHaven3 жыл бұрын
The way we're headed, buying USA will be supporting communism before long.
@sam-and-angela3 жыл бұрын
We're a little concerned about over-taxing the transmission on the Element with a hitch on it... maybe once we get this stack of maintenance done on it we'll feel more confident in it's abilities.
@diyfferent3 жыл бұрын
@@sam-and-angela I hear you. The Element has a 1500 lb towing capacity. The Karavan trailer weights about 517lbs so you have a little room to load up without getting too heavy. Then again, our Element doesn't shift as smooth as it used to! We should really try to take it easy!

💡💡 Find a piece/sheet of really dense foam, like from packaging, and put it in the space that you cut out for each of the mounting brackets. That will keep rain and dirt and debris out of those areas, but still keep them accessible. 👍 Looks like a great solution‼️👍

So, first...... sorry the Surco rack wasn't a straight bolt together deal. Obviously someone who isn't a DIY type of person will struggle with this install. Or maybe have to pay someone to install it. I'm watching because I too have an Element, and plan to install a Surco rack. I plan to use their square bars designed for the safari rack, so maybe no sanding down the inserts when I install mine. I do have to say this though......... I have their large safari rack on my Excursion and I love it ! It is built like a tank. It hauls our three kayaks, the portable poop tank for our camper, and whatever else we need to haul up there. It is because of the quality of the safari rack that is making me return to Surco for a rack for the Element. I hope in the long run, you come to feel the quality of your rack was worth the extra work. P.S. Great idea cutting holes through the plastic pieces to keep most leaves and such out. When I purchase and install a Surco rack on my Element, I will be copying this idea.

I drove by Home Depot yesterday and it looked as packed as could be. It was very cold and snowy, so why were all those people feeling the need to go to HD? A mystery........
@barryedwards13363 жыл бұрын
Just looking at those bars and their fitting, they look good and strong but still leave a lot to be desired, even looks as if some parts are missing, any signs of the packs being opened before you bought them as the fitting instructions were also not included, next the open slot left along the top of the bar when fitted (is the bottom of the bar the same) I would think there should have been a plastic blanking strip to close off this area to stop wind noise, ever had that whistling noise and did not know where it came from and what caused it, well now you know, so cover it with some Gorilla tape and problem is solved, like your idea of cutting slot in the cars plastic roof blanking plate though pure genius.

Low-key it amazes me how expensive roof racks can be. I know sometimes you get what you pay for but honestly we got some aftermarket replica oem bars that hold the weight of our Roof top tent. We have had it for 8 months now and it has held up so nice no issues at all. I got them with very low expectations and it surprises me every day how good they look and how strong they are. If anyone is on a budget be sure to check them out. Great video guys always enjoy your content 👍

Just a thought, might the cross bars go the other way up? With the deeper groove on top. It kind of looks like the blocks might have fit in the shallow side. Not sure if it’d leave room for the nut though.
