The totally different names in English and Chinese for certain places are also very interesting to look at, which usually reveal the different perspectives of the locals and of the Brits in those days.
I love this topic! We have researched on quite a number of names of buildings and streets in Hong Kong, and the discoveries were very interesting and even inspiring!

其實香港翻譯西片的中文譯名,都好有質素。 我最記得 ,”The Day After Tomorrow”, 大陸就咁 意譯叫做 「後天」, 毫無意思。 但香港 譯作 「明日之後」, 首先意譯又啱,片名有多一個層次, 令人睇完片名,會想到:明日之後,世界又會變成點呢。 所以真心佩服 ,香港專責翻譯西片片名的人, 咁有文采。😊

有一套叫"Lady in the water" 香港譯做「禍水」,我覺得超級有意境;而台灣係譯做「水中女人」,中國譯做「水中女妖」。 另外仲有一套"Snakes on a plane" 香港譯做「毒蛇嚇機」;而台灣係譯做「飛機上有蛇」🫠,中國就譯做「航班蛇患」。
