I hope you know your complete hair type Heres mine: Curl pattern - I, S, O, L Texture - TIGHT Density - DENSE Thickness THICK Sebum - MEDIUM-HIGH Porosity - BALANCED to LOW Due to my density its impossible to wash out the paste version of these powders from my hair. Shikakai worked well in cleaning my hair but, it dried it out so I had to follow it up with a deep conditioning.

Do you add the powders to your shampoo? If so how much of each?
@awakenedbeauti49776 жыл бұрын
Donna Dampier Sorry for the late response but yes I add the powders to my shampoo. I add about 1/4 or 1/2 teaspoon depending on which powders I'm using for that particular batch. For example, if I add 1/2 tsp. of Shikaikai, I'll add 1/4 tsp. of aritha powder. I do the same with my amla and brahmi for my conditioner mix. However, if I add MSM powder to any of my mixtures, I make sure to use a little bit more of the amla powder because the high concentration of vitamin c in the amla will allow for your hair to more readily take up the benefits of the MSM. I hope this makes sense. If you have any other questions feel free to ask 😌
@donnadampier2616 жыл бұрын
Thank you for answering so quickly. Your measurements make perfect sense. So you only use the MSN when you add the amla and brahmi in your conditioner how much of the MSN should I use? Sorry for all the questions. Hope to hear from you soon have a blessed day.

My daugter is low low low porosity and I can't use acv because then the oils and extracts can't penetrate her hair shaft. I use it in my conditioner or deep conditioner or rinse after to close all the moister and goodness in. I was wondering why you use acv on low porosity hair. ? What does it do for you? And do the herbs and oils still penetrate your shafts ? Sorry for the long reply I'm trying to find the perfect hair regime for me and my daugter. Kind regards rose

I use shikakai as part of a multi-herb leave in spritz on moisturize day. I use a tbs of henna and a tsp of amla, shikakai, bhrami and aloe powders. Basically, the Curly Proverbz tea spritz mix. I found shikakai a bit drying when I tried it alone but that was the full paste. I’ll try it as a straight rinse and see how my hair responds. I HOPE you continue with this Ayurvedic series, beyond your original list of herbs. I’m hoping you will consider doing a video on Ziziphus Spina Christi. Thanks!!

My hair is 4b in the back/regular porosity-4c on the sides regular to low porosity-small bits of-3c at the crown-low porosity, and the center back/lower porosity. I love shikaki...my hair loves it and leaves it soft, and brings out the texture. I can see where I will use this more often as my hair gets longer, as it lends to me doing next to nothing for styling after getting out of the shower. I also like soapnuts and bhringaj. I mix them together with shikakai and make a tea. I will sometimes add or follow up with a tea of marshmallow, slippery elm, nettle, and or horsetail. And my standby after wash and rinse is castor oil or some kind of castor oil mix.

I've been suffering from scalp dermatitis for years, and apart from eating 90% natural, I wash my hair with a paste formed by: 3,5 parts Shikakai, 3,5 parts Aritha, 1 part Neem, 1,5 parts of Amla, 1 part of Tulsi (basil leaf powder). I have a huge jar of these mixed powders and make a paste to wash my hair. After my shower, I air dry my hair and then brush it upside down above the bathtub, because it leaves little dry specs of powder on my hair that are hard to rinse. I put coconut oil on my ends and I'm good to go. I would prefer tea form, but as a paste it exfoliates my scalp. Sometimes I mix Amla with yogurt for deep conditioning... I have straight hair, so it's easier for me to rinse all out... Thank you for your videos, I love how informative, well researched they are and the effort you put on everyone of them to scientifically explain everything. So happy you are making these videos. 😘😘😘😘😘

I have tried herbal washes (aritha, shikakai), clay washes (rhassoul, bentonite), sulfate-mild, sulfate-free, CO-washing. Tried it all. In all cases, my scalp reacted badly. I have SD, seborrheic dermatitis. I have found out after years of struggling, that I simply need the harshest cleansers on the market (Pantene, Herbal Essences) to get the gunk off. This keeps me from having to use my medicated shampoo (Nizoral 2%) too often. It is what it is. I'm 45, and I have given up experimenting. After all a clean scalp is a happy scalp, and I would give *anything* to have the flakes an itchiness and redness gone. Sulfates work for me. YMMV. It is different for everyone. And yes I have tried ACV. You name it, I've tried it. :) I love your informational videos! :)
@GreenBeauty6 жыл бұрын
Marleen G. Most of the issues we experience on our scalp and skin, in general, are signs of what’s going on inside. From what you say, it sounds like the sulfate shampoo are only pacifying the real issue. Rather than looking for external solutions, look within. Get some blood work done to check you’re vitamin levels and hormones. Also, try experimenting with different healthy diet chooses. The benefits topical products and natural ingredients provide are limited by our internal health.
@amixeblu6 жыл бұрын
My bloodwork is fine, I have it done yearly. My diet is fine too; no fast food and home cooked meals with plenty of vegetables. And for the record, I have nothing against sulfates, or silicones. So actually I don't mind having to use them. It helps me deal with the issue quite well, keeps the oil at bay and the flakes and itch away. If that is *all* I have to do to use my medicated shampoo less (like once in ever so many years), then I'll take it. YMMV, of course. But that's just my take on it. Thanks for responding! Oh, and I weekly wash, so every wash, weekly, for me is a clarifying wash. I "combat" the dryness by double conditioning. Should someone else be in my shoes, it might help you out. I use the LOC/LCO method for styling afterwards, and it locks in the moisture quite well.

GMOgottago, I have tried Chagrin Valley soap bars - didn't work. Even with a vinegar rinse after. I just got an itchy scalp, and later flakes. I am sticking to my sulfates, but thanks for helping. Like I mentioned, I tried it all. I'm 45, you would think that I'd have had the time, right? I have had this since I was a baby (cradle cap). Back then my mom used sweet almond oil & water to gently remove the flakes. That no longer works (oils feed the fungal overgrowth that is typical on SD).

Jeekai W the saponin content in Shikakai can be irritating to some people. If it irritates you again, try mixing it with other herbs and/or try diluting it.

Hi, my hair type is: Curl pattern SO Texture tight Thick Sebum low Porosity med/high I usealy mix henna with, brahmi, neem, amla and some other powder and ad some vegetable oils like, olie, almond, castor, coco, avocado .... and some green tea and ACV to darken the paste. I use it as a shampoo/deep conditioner/protein treatment twice a month. My hair is naturally high porosity, it really like thick mixtures and after it my hair totally absorbe the paste and it feels dry after a few hours but after washing my hair is SOOO soft! I really like your channel, there is so much to lurn. It's the base for knowing your hair better!

I couldn't watch this video without thinking of Ace Ventura 2. Shikakaaa! I've never heard of Shikakai before this. I might look into it more.

Can I use Shikakai every time i shampoo, twice a month? Or do you recommend less since it is very potent?
@GreenBeauty6 жыл бұрын
Its safe to use as a replacement to shampoos. If you notice that its irritating you over time, dilute it.

I’m so happy i found your channel. I am so sensitive to most products on the market. Learning from your channel and Curlyproverbz about how to use clay to clean my hair. I have one question. How can you preserve the clay mix?
@ysmbklyn5 жыл бұрын
Seer Channah I put mine in the freezer until I need to use it again. I make enough for 2-3 uses.

I really love your videos, and think you're brilliant, however I have a question that's not related to this video. Can you make a video about the best way to trim natural hair,or is there a best way?? Thanks

There is no letter "i" after the first "a" in the word as you are pronouncing it "shi-kai-kai." It is pronounced more like "cock-eye" but with the short "a" sound instead of the "o." "shi-cock-eye" "shi-ka-kai" My intent is just to be helpful, not disrespectful. Personally, I like to know if I mispronounce words, and though most people feel the same way, there are those that take offense, so do with it as you will. You have a very nice speaking voice, and the video is very informative and very well done! I appreciate the care and time that it takes to make a quality video that stays on topic and not filled with an abundance of promotional rhetoric, I truly do!

Can you do a video about oils? The differences, moisturizing vs sealing, what’s oils are better for low or high porosity hair.
@sheralync58542 жыл бұрын
what a fabulous video. You've put in a lot of work the info is good and interesting :-) In terms of smell or scent, how strong is the shikakai tea/paste? pleasant or unpleasant smell? What about the amla?
@sniffytuna Жыл бұрын
Oh boy i just washes with shikakai but it was a paste not enough for my lengths . Even when made woth rosewater, my hair felt dry and i used it as a mask for 20minuted with the aluminium cap. Which i wont be using cause it dripped into my eye. Owww. So next time ill use the tea method . But should we mix with some hydrating ingredients cause the length we can use conditioner /mask afterwards but it feels dry even at the scalp area....

I need help! my hair is breaking SO MUCH. I am from Brazil and I was living in California. My hair was doing ok. growing fast, not super pretty 'cause honestly I never care the way I supposed too. Anyways now I am living in Italy and since I moved in I'm losing tons of hair. Seriously there's strands all over the floor, my clothes, my bed...everything. And the weirdest part is that my hair looks amazing. It is so shine and soft. I already did some things like: trimmed, yolk egg shampoo, avocado mask, banana mask, bought new shampoo (one for hair loss and other one no parabens and no sulfate), deep conditioning, apple vinegar, rosemary tea, lemon, jojoba oil, coconut oil, castoil oil. Nothing seems to work :( Oh and I am being extremely careful with what I eat and drink. So I don't know what else I can try :~~~
@annettemint6 жыл бұрын
Oh gosh you poor thing. You've done a lot but I'd say stop and try to stick to a regimen for a few months. I think you need a good protein treatment...those masks are not going to penetrate your strands as well as hydrolyzed wheat protein. Ironically this channel sales it and you can find it on Amazon. Green tea and tea tree oil also helps. Other factors: hormones, stress, basically lifestyle. Hair also goes through a shedding cycle. Good luck dear.
