I wanted to point out that the cuticle is not the tiny flap of skin that is cut, that is the eponychium and technically shouldn't ever be cut. The actual cuticle is the small white sticky stuff on top of the nail. It usually sits around the base of the nail near the eponhchium, but if it has been a long time since a manicure it will grow further down the nail plate. I personally still trim the eponychium, but still leave some attached as to protect my nail from infections. I've never had a nail infection and never make myself bleed when cutting it like they do in a nail salon. That is one of the reasons I hate going to salons. I trim mine because it grows pretty long since I sporadically doe manicures and takes up a lot of the base of my nail plate. So be careful when you do your manicure if you'd adamant about trimming the "cuticle," which is actually the eponychium.

I have a similar routine but I keep my nails really low now, I like the aesthetics of short nails on long nail beds, but then I discovered how annoying it is for your body to keep making something quicker than you want!😅 When I wanted long nails it seemed so slow, now that I don't, I file on Wednesdays and by Saturday I'm wondering if I had a lucid dream about filling my nails 3 days prior 😭 I can't wait till I get to that kind of contentment with my hair where I'm no longer feeling like I'm watching paint dry. The funny thing is just realised nails and hair may grow at the same rate, 0.5inches a month is about 1mm every three days. But I guess the expectation for hair make it seem slow.

You’re trimming the nail fold, that’s skin not cuticle. The cuticle is what forms underneath the nail fold, the white substance that you scraped off your nail. So gently pushing the skin fold back reveals the cuticle that you can remove.
